T.N.S Krishna Music Academy. 25/12/2011
T .N. S.Krishna
M Chandrasekaran
Trichur Narendhran
Rajaggopalan Ghatam
Marivere- Shanmukhapriya- Adi- Patnam Subramanya Iyer
Ethavunara- Kalyani- Adi- Thyagaraja
RTP Kanda thriputai 4 kalai.
Virutham Devaki Nandhana Ragamalika.
Mangalam
The concert as a whole was very good. Special mention to the Kalyani raga alapana and the complicated RTP . Entered the hall when he was singing Shanmukhapriya alapana. He is one of the most captivating singer I have heard in recent times. His voice did magical wonders in the alapanas and Krishna has a magnificient voice which is always in unison with the tambura . Absolutely brilliant concert. His swaras and niraval were simply excellent. Being the son and disciple of a great legend its natural that Krishna could deliver and present the intricate portions of the Ragam thanam pallavi very interestingly with utmost ease.
His concert displayed the true vidwath, The sad part -- not too many people in the auditorium.

I was wonderng compared to Abhishek raguram, how does TNS Krishna fare ? I have not attended both of their concerts. I heard from a musician that both of them will spoil their voice in another 5 years !!!!

TNSK has a long way to go.. no comparison of what so ever to Abhishek Raghuram. Also I was surprised to see the review. He almost was in a hurry at MA to complete his concert. He should have respected MC age / capability and should have had appropriate birkas. Somehow he disappointed with his speed and voice volume.. He also needs to moderate thatgrsastrigal wrote:I was wonderng compared to Abhishek raguram, how does TNS Krishna fare ? I have not attended both of their concerts. I loved the concert...and lets not compare TNS Krishna with anyone. I think he is extremely talented and is a superb musician, and deserves more opportunities to showcase his music. My only minor quibble is that he seems to channelize TNS's voice of the 90's and 2000's way too much...if indeed one were to channelize TNS's voice, it should be from the 70s and 80s. Some pronunciations tend to come from the corner of the mouth...which damps the sounds he is producing and can sound odd. But, I tend to overlook this considering he is still a work in progress Presentation wise, also he needs to differentiate a little from what TNS offers, my view is that all of TNS's fans are his - so, when the original is still on, TNS fans r not looking for cover versions. So, if TNS Krishna can make minor adjustments, the crowd issue should get taken care of. Overall, he is a sparkling musician...and I'd rather go to his concert than many of the other senior artists.

sorry forgot to mention about the Raga of the RTP. T N S krishna is a very talented musician. Even the senior violin maestro M.Chandrasekaran sir was overjoyed and continuously appreciated the vocalist by saying bale' sabash'. I dont understand badaris comment, why should a vocalist or any other main artist curb his talent or free flow of voice for the sake of violinst. There is a bani or style for each one and if the presentation goes against this the concert will become a complete failure. Any individual musician should be appreciated on the basis of their effort and musical content leaving aside all the personnel prejudices.

Both are highly creative. Shek's voice carries better and TNSK has a bit of a raspy muffled voice. Shek appears to be a little more spontaneous but can be hobbled with a bad mike/sound system because of excessive body movement. TNSK is more soothing and can be heard for longer stretches and more often without fraying your nervesgrsastrigal wrote:I was wonderng compared to Abhishek raguram, how does TNS Krishna fare ? I saw the review today in Hindu like most of you which is not telling good about the concert and his performance specially. But it will be good if the artist pays heed to the reviewer's views. He has immense talent and channelizing them in the right direction must his priority now.

Practically an artist cannot pay attention to the reviewers, each reviewer will have his own opinion and taste how can a artist change himself to satisfy all the critics. I read an old review by a popular critic of yester years in a tamil magazine, he has written
"GNB ELLAAM INIMEL PAADAVE koodadhu MARGAZHI BHAJANAI PANNA POGATAM"
this review had been written for the 1963/64 Music Academy concert of GNB. The recording of the concert is still available and the kalyani he had rendered leave the listeners speechless and the whole concert was astounding with the accompaniment by the legends Sri lalgudi jayaraman and palghat raghu, this recording is still preserved as veritable treasure by many rasikas and musicians. As per my opinion, with their limited knowledge in music, critics write from their point of view that's all , the artists cannot take it as valuable advises or suggestions.

Reviewers are people who appreciate music and are able to write their feeling in a good language. Sometimes they are people who know music to some minimal extent or to put it black and white, who knows music and are not able to sing for various reasons:-) i myself have seen reviewers asking what a particular raga is to the next seat neighbour! Such is the plight of the critics of today.Their views are their own views and are not views of every body present in that particular concert. If the reviewer is Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, then TNSK can respect the view and give a thought about it and then probably make changes. Even in that case, the artist has the ultimate choice to change or take it as a challenge and change the view of the rasika, by making him listen to his music. Nobody has the right to advice any artist to adhere to a reviewers advice, leave alone TNSK.
As far as his music is concerned, he is here to give a pristine pure classical music. It will take somemore time for him to mature into a musician of greater depth. He has a phenomenal repsonsibility in his shoulders and how much ever he tries, he would be compared with his iillustrious father, who is a phenomenon and THE ONE AND ONLY LIVING MASTER.
As regards comparision with Abhishek Raghuram, I would say that Abhishek's style is totally different and no where comes into this category of music at all. With due regards to the Abhishek's talent and hardwork, it is a different style of music, which has started to get noticed. TNSK's strong points stand way ahead. Time will surely bring out the greatness that lies inside this youngster.

another review of the same artist on the same day in a different page,
Everybody should read this to note the contrast
Music Academy review appears to be a destructive criticism written with excessive prejudice
