Mambalam Sisters sang to a packed audience at the Obul Reddy Hall. I entered the hall when the Kalyani piece was on. The niraval and kalpana svara-s were very good. I listened to their concert after very long time and I could see some changes regarding the voice production. The items included
Nammi vachina- kalyani
Naadu pai madhyamavati
a relaxed piece in yadukulakambodi
A fast sari evvare in Sriranjani
and the main piece was ramabhana in Saveri.
After the tani they presented
Kamalaptakula in brindavani
Laali Yugave - Nilambari
and in the end they sang a different mangalam of Thyagaraja in kedaragaula.
They were accompanied by their sister Dr. hemalatha on the violin and Shertalai Anathakrishnana on the mridangam (both of them gave good support)
One obvious missing in their concert was their father who usually accompanies them on the kanjira did not perform on that day.
The raga alapanas were well elaborated, madhyamavati was sung by Vijayalakshmi (I hope so) and the saveri alapana was sung by Chitra.
Overall a good concert and it was nice to see most of the audience sitting for the tani too without getting up.
