[Edit: There was a Devi theme to this concert. I was expecting the slightly hackneyed (although still beautiful!) shankari nIvE when bEgaDa was being sung, but the rarer kAmAkShi was a welcome relief. In mOhanam I anticipated jagadIshvari, my favorite composition in that rAga, and was glad it came through!]

Taking a clue from Krithis, thanis can be structured to provide a well defined Refrain ( like the pallavi line of a krithi that the song comes back to after the anupallavi and charanam ).
i wondered if the mridangist had been reading rasikas lately because, VK, this is exactly what he did. He performed a series of avartanas finishing off with korvais each time and ending with the rhythmic pattern of the pallavi. Somehow this time i may have been a little distracted and was rather surprised when the tani ended, but your idea was carried out in this concert. it sounded wonderful and sri MAK spoke to the audience and said this was performed on the spot as they had not discussed the pallavi before twhe concert. he asked for an additional round of applause for sri skandasubramaniam. The audience gladly obliged.

Ranganayaki: Interesting. So it looks like you could hear that refrain clearly.

I am planning on attending that team's concert in a few days. I will try to pay attention. But it is possible for me to miss it unless it is quite pronounced.

Thanks for pointing this out.
