Pranavopadesham opera of Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi

Post by bhargavi_b »

I am happy to share the lyrics of a magnificent 83-stanza opera in Tamil by Ootukkadu Venkata Kavi. This is rendered like a kavadi chindu.

The opera describes the entire episode of Shanmukha becoming the Guru of his own father, Lord Shiva to explain the signficance of the mantra 'Om'.

The first 13 stanzas constitute the opening section of the opera that describe Lord Shanmukha's childhood pranks. Verse 14 depicts Brahma's entry and Shanmukha's interaction with him that continues till verse 27. Venkata Kavi has played with the words such as 'arirandu' and used several other poetic and witty references in Shanmukha's conversation with both Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva.

I request the forumites to post detailed English translation for this so that the entire rasikas forum can enjoy this piece.
