on Aug 2 2014, At Unnati, Bangalore
Sri. Raghavendra Rao - Violin
Sri. Palladam Ravi - Mridangam
Sri. Karthik - Ghatam
Dear Friend,
Unnati Centre wore a very festive look on the first day of the eagerly awaited Gokulashtami series. To add value was the thumping start given by Sangeetha Kalanidhi Smt. Sudha Raghunathan. The screen opened to a full house at sharp 6 pm, setting the mood for the artistes to take us on a joyous journey. The 3 hours that followed were total bliss. Smt Sudha as always came not only dressed to kill but also to capture the hearts of the large gathering of young and old alike. The selections of songs as well as ragas were very thoughtful and aimed at giving complete satisfaction to the listeners. Smt. Sudha was ably supported on the violin by Sri Raghavendra Rao and the duo of Palladam Sri. Ravi on the mridangam and Dr.Karthick on the ghatam gave fantastic support. The taniavartham was very well appreciated and received thunderous applause from the audience.
We take this opportunity to thank you all for being such wonderful rasikas. The artistes were full of praise for the enthusiasm, involvement and the discipline shown by one and all , throughout the concert. We sincerely hope and wish that all of you take that extra trouble and decide to be with us on all the days and make this series a memorable one.

A good beginning indeed, for a mega music festival. The scintillating sangeetha kalanidhi started the series with a good selection of songs(sans rtp). Wonder whose composition that is, in priyadarSini...

Thanks Rajesh.
A recent rAgA of course, and I wonder if MLV was around when it was composed. She might have sung it too.

Apart from the well known krithi mentioned above and that of Narayanatheerthar, Sanjay includes Priyadarshini as (pallavi) Ragamalika swara. Last December season he sang RTP in Priyadarshini.

It was a fabulous musical evening at unnati centre. I feel myself very very blessed to be a part of this wonderful concert... The artist of the evening was none other than my favorite Sangeetha Kalanidhi Padmashree Dr Sudha Raghunathan accompanied by Vidwan Shree Raghavendra Rao on the Violin, Vdwan Shree Palladam Ravi on the Mridangam and Vidwan Shree Dr S Karthick on the Ghatam....
The concert started with a Varnam in the raga Behag Vanjaksha that was followed by Pahi Pahi Ganapathe in the raga Hamsadhwani. The swarakalpana at Ganapathe was awesome...
Marivere Dikkevarayya Rama in the raga Shanmukhapriya was the next item. Short and sweet neraval at Sannutanga was good. A short Suruti alapana followed by ShreeVenkatagireeshamaalokaye was the next song...
Then she started with a less heard raga called Priyadarshini. She did a detailed wonderful alapana in typical Briga style which was well received. The composition that she took was "Rukminipathe Krishnamoorthe" followed by short swaras which was very neat. Ulaganayakiye in Bahudari was the next song...
The main item of the concert was the majestic raga Shankarabharana... What an alapana it was... Just great.. The grabedam was very good where she brought Yaman Kalyan in the middle of the Shankarabharana. On the middle of the she sang the "Krishna nee egane baro" sangati that part was very nice... The Kriti that she taken for the main item was very famous Purandaradasa composition "Pogadirelo Ranga". The neraval at "Srusteesha purandara vittala" was amazing followed by memmerizing kalpanaswaras with lot of calculations in mishrachapu. The way she travels in thristhayi oh my God. The perfect percussion combination took us to a different world during Mishrachapu Thani avarthanam..
The filling items of the concert were Hey Govinda hey gopala, bhavayami gopalabalam, Yamuna theere ashtapathi, brahmamokate and some ragamalika....
Totally it was a fabulous concert.. Sudha was her best today.. What a voice, brigas in her alapana sangatis, her calculations in swarakalpana without losing Bhavam, thristhayi sancharam... Totally it was a complete package...
Last but not least: she was looking gorgeous in green silk saree and more happy thing for me is she spoke on Kannada with Mike guy(usually people won't speak Kannada) Thank you soooooooo much Sudhaji and her team.... — feeling blessed with Ghatam Karthick.
