Just attended this 1 1/2 hour concert.

It was very good and despite its abbreviated nature, the two Aishwaryas teamed up with Sivaraman and Sivaramakrishnan, and showcased an exceptional Kalyani that ran almost 45 minutes, starting with an elaborate alapanai. The kriti taken up was the MD classic "BhajarE rE cita". The well structured presentation of the sAhityam was followed by a neraval and swarams at "devIM shaktibIjodbhava mAtrkArNa sharIriNIM" that was brilliant and drew plenty of applause. In particular, the manOdharman in neraval was noteworthy. The taniAvarthanam was relatively short, but appropriate considering the length of the concert.

Recollecting from memory, Aishwarya sang the following songs.

2. mAkElara - ravi candrikA
3. BhajarE rE citta - KalyANi
4. JagadOdharaNa - HindustAni KApi
5. DhanAsri thillAnA
6. MaithrEm Bhajatha (that brings tears regardless of the number of times I hear it)

The support by Aishu Venkataraman, with her Sri. TN Krishnan school playing, was fantastic and needs special mention as well.

What a melodious start for the New Year
The Kalyani by Aishwarya will linger in my mind for a long long time. Simply fantastic Manodharma.
During the sancharas in the Mel Gandharam she had the listeners captivated with the magic of her highly trained voice which chooses to obey every command of hers.
Aishu Venkataraman was melody personified in her reply. One could perceive the powerful bowing of the TNK School throughout the kutcheri. Jagadhodharana deserves special mention. Aishwarya’s singing and Aishu’s violin took us to a different plane altogether.

The Kalyani alapana was elaborate and very good- had many sancharas of MSS and her grandmother RV. After Makelara, before Kalyani, she sang Thaye Tripurasundari in Sudhasaveri. She also sang Baso Mere-Meera bhajan before the thillana. Aishu also complemented well. It was nice starting the new year with a meeting of the family of ceinu and VRV.

The 2 Tampura-s, I was told by Ceinu, were those used by MSS. The bigger of the two has 6 strings!
