This was the inaugural day of the 49th Annual festival of one of the prestigious sabha of the twin cities, Kalasagaram. As per their tradition, the sabha conferred the title of ‘Sangeetha Kalasagara’ for 2016 to the Malladi Brothers. After the chief guest’s delayed arrival, customary speeches, felicitation function and the honouring sessions, the concert started at 7.50 PM or so. Knowing their guru parampara, their guru-bhakthi, it was obvious that the short concert for 2 hrs was filled with items chosen specially for the occasion. After the kriti on Lord Ganesha, they announced that this was the first kriti they learnt from their paramaguruji Dr. Pinakapani garu. Next one in Atana was rendered in their style, with emphasis on the phrases on ‘sangItOpAsana'. The following one offered as a salutation to the vidhulu was rendered with bhavam. The main in kharharapriya, the annamacharya kriti tuned by their guru, preceded with an elaborate alapana for 12min. was a tribute to their Guru Sri. Nedunuri garu. They said they will sing the ‘parama purusha manu’ as a tribute Dr. Balamuralikrishna garu, as it was regularly rendered by the late Doyen in the popular radio programme ‘Bhakthi Ranjani’ of the All India Radio in Andhra Pradesh early in the morning; and hence their father had taught them this song. Needless to describe about the Excellent support by Embar Kannan,Tumkur Ravishankar on mridangam and Shyamkumar on Kanjira which was very enjoyable throughout the concert.
Overall it was a short-2-hr sweet kucheri.
