Raga devatha and time theory

Post by vamsipet »

Are there any books that provide information for mela and janya ragams, like time theory, raga devatha, rasa etc...

Thank you

Rasa is creating the emotion. Like one mourns, the notes are all in lower octaves and in the range of sa ri ga ma but does not in general move to pa da.. Oppari is composed on the spot again to bring the emotion of sorrow.
Kalyani raga is supposed bring Bhakti, dasa and euporic bhavas. But we never hear a musican sing Pallavi, anupallavi and charanam in different bhavas. But once in a while one will splash them like. Asai mugam Maranthu pOchE by OS Arun, when he sings, nEsam marakkavillai ennil nechAm marakkalamO you see a flash of the bhave of sorrow but he does not bring them out completely. The fundamental frequency analsysis by Russians show that in the lower octave emotions are produced. We have no such study in India. Thus, there is now known grammar that can tell us about Majar sentences - Melas, phrases -like raga or sentence types with chosen syllables etc. We in general don't preserve historical documents. The time aspect is how the emotional components should be brought out and is it vocal or instrumental determines the outcome. So, Tala or beats as we have now developed over a long period of time . Eka thalam was the only one in all leather drums as they repeat the same beat. We do not study the science of Indian Music, rather learn and sing.
