Learned from fb that Veena Vidwan Trichy B. Sivakumar passed away today early morning due to cardiac arrest and related problems. I have heard his music in radio as well as in Veena festivals. He was just fifty three. He was staff of AIR Trichy.
Deepest condolences to his family and disciples. Om Shanthi.

Re: VEENA VIDWAN TRICHY B SIVAKUMAR PASSED AWAY
A shocking news.
The music world stands to lose a superbly talented Vainika in his prime. He was a musician with a deep insight into the art music. He brought in several innovations in the Veena to make it more user friendly apart from enriching its tonal quality.
Sivakumar was a respected friend of mine and I had several opportunities to interact with him while I was working in Thanajvur / Nagapattinam areas. Tyagaraja Aradhana Tiruvaiyaru, Narayanatheertha Aradhana Thirupunthuruthy and the Mummurthikal Jayanthi at Tiruvarur were important events covered by AIR in full and Sivakumar would a member of the team mostly. He and Violin Vidwan Ramanujacharyulu used to obtain my feedback on the music broadcasts of AIR. The discussions used to be of immense benefit to me.
As member of a dynamic team of music staff, he played a key role in producing highly informative programmes on Carnatic music. Their contribution for the centenary celebrations of AIR Trichy was memorable since it was the major centre for Carnatic music of the past in the south maintaining a valuable archives library.
I have lost a good friend.
Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved members of the family.
