Gayathri began her recital with kOtIswara iyer’s vAraNa mukavA [hamsadhwani - rUpaka chApu ]. The charaNam of krithis are said to be a combination of pallavi and anupallavi and vishranthi is felt (while accompanying too) in first two lines of charaNam before the krithi takes it flight to thAra sthAyi. The glides she provided were in a great manner. A nice swara section followed it.
She presented gurulekha etuvanti [gowrimanOhari] with a brisk alApana, niraval and swaram and chandhrasekarEndhra sarasvathy [mohanam] since it was anusham on that day. It was also a sani pradhOsham and she took a virutham of mANikka vaasagar

After a moving renditions on guru and paramEswara, I requested gayathri to sing hiraNmayIm lakshmIm…. She renedered a sloka and sang the heartwarming lalitha …. Swaras were rendered for hiraNmayIm..
paRakEla in kedhAra gowLa of shyAma sAsthri added pep to the concert and it was followed by a nine minutes of joy in an alApana in kalyANi.
The ga and rI in thAra sthAyi were remarkable that the sustain and sancharAs were accurate and it jelled with the thampura’s overtones…..
kalyani shankar played a good kalyANi.
dhIkshithar’s bhajarE rE chitha in misra chApu was main. The niraval in 'dhEvIM shaktibIjodbhava' and swaras were awesome.
I played a thani in chathusra gathi. “avaL than anaithaiyum”, a ragamAlika in Anandhabhairavi, bAgeshrI and sivaranjani [uLundhoorpettai shanmukam], pavanajasthuthi pAthra in kurinji of thyAgarAja and mangaLam [pavamAna] made the 'inaugural' concert a “iniya – kural” [sweet voice] concert.
The previous day [4.1.08], it was raining and Gayathri sang in ambathur for visaka innisai peravai with ranjani ramakrishnan on the violin and myself on the mrudangam. Irrespective of the rain pour, we had a good crowd [ram also came].
a splendid jambupathe and thiruvadi charaNam were the highlights.
