About Stree Gaanam:
This unique production entitled Stree Gaanam is an attempt to present the works of some women composers spanning the gamut of over six centuries (from the 7th century to the present day). These women composers came from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu and their polyglot compositions would be an interesting revelation of the poetry of their times, an insight into the feminist mind. Stree Gaanam is an effort to revive, salvage, preserve and present this work which if not, will go completely unrecognized and lost to the music world. Stree Gaanam is a befitting tribute to women on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Stree Gaanam is a solo multi-media presentation by Dr.Vasumathi Badrinathan, and will feature some select compositions which will be sung along with the presentation of the life sketch of these women composers.
Hope to see you at this function.
Best wishes,
Dr. Vasumathi Badrinathan
