The concert was from 06:15 to 08:45 pm with about 10 minutes break for a brief speech by vasanth kumAr (vainika and Musicacademy executive, never knew that he was the son of Smt sulochana pattabhirAman)
The concert had a lot of pluses and few minuses
Pluses of the concert:
---------------------
1. Packing lot of musical saNgathis which was evident from the start till the end .The best before the main was the neraval and swaras of prEma JUchi nApai in khamAs ,that was exceptional maNodharmam there.
2. The contrast of long nAyaki for 11 minutes followed by fast paced varAli was excellent . SuryaprakAsh adopts TVS style of singing viruttham in the beginning , and he also sings even before varnam in bhairavi was excellent too.
3. kAmbOdhi was for about 55 minutes , considering there was just 5 minutes for violin return in alApanai and a brief 5 minute tani ,this kAmbOdhi was beautifully sung kind of so many saNgathis soaked in classicism. Incidentally he avoided the mmi trademark of ga ma pa ma ga swaras , his spread was more in madhyama and keezh kala swara sangathis with very minimal touch in tara sthAyi.Enjoyed a lot both the neraval and the swaras of kAmbOdhi.
4.The concert was lifted by exceptional bowing and razor sharp replies by MAS in the violin. The early khamAs and the kAmbOdhi replies were superb with the right proportion. Also during the varAli swaras the gAndhAra distinct piDi was handled beautifully by MAS.Exceptional control in speed .
5. Murugabhoopathy played beautifully with a real good feel of lyrics , especially his pauses during kuraippu swaras of KAmbODhi was well done . His play in khamAs and kAmBodhi was very nice
6. Both the rAgamAligas were sung beautifully
Minuses of the concert:
----------------------
1. SuryaprakAsh planned it as a major kAMbOdhi based concert , no qualms there . But taking an alApana only from the 5th number was certainly a bit delayed one, that was roughly after 50 minutes of the concert. I would have loved if he had sung a brief kamAs alApana to give a more well rounded submain
2. Tani by Tjr K. Murugabhoopathy was very brief and was a quick pass. His play for few krithis was not matching with the tempo of the vocalist and violinist during few krithis especially in varAli
3. I did not like that much the smara janaka krithi , even though the alApana was quite nice(in general I dont like this particular swathi krithi that much).
Overall an excellent concert .The music was as usual packed keeping up with his usual style
