It was a very good concert. The choice of pieces and rAgams for such a thematic concert, was quite refreshing and contained quite some rare pieces. The pieces were all rendered very well. The manodarmam was very good and it was a very classical affair. The accompanists did a good job and played well.

Is this the same Smt. Lakshmi Sriram from IITM, who was reviewed at http://rasikas.org/forums/viewtopic.php? ... hwani.html?

I did not realize that she is like Smt. Shakuntala Narasimhan - adept at both HM and CM.

yes indeed.
she is the same Smt. Lakshmi Sriram who is more popular as a hindustani Vocalist but is also a carnatic vocalist in her own right. She gives performances of both genres of music, without mixing each other, in the city sabhas.

Nice to see the enchanting telisi teliya of vINA kuppayyar get an airing on the concert stage...

Veenai Kuppaiyar is one of my favourite composers.

Nice theme, which will offer a good variety of compositions whether one goes by raga (Carnatic, Hindustani, modern), tempo, devotional/non-devotional and for devotional songs, the deity placated.

Smt. Sriram clarifies that it is a composition of Sri Periyaswami Thooran, set to tune by Sri T K Govinda Rao.
