The concert started with a brisk saveri varnam. The sriranjani alapana was brief, just as i settled
down to listen to a reasonably lengthy alapanaa. Sesha chary's voice lends itself to sriranjani ragam
very well. And his voice was in form today. The way the brothers sing Brocheva is a joy to behold! Brief
it was, but the alapana and thekrithi were rendered very well. The chaya tharangini was rather
fast that i couldn't quite catch it.Then came this utterly beautiful alapana in malaya marutham, sung by
Sesha chary. He just jumped on his magic carpet and took off, presenting a spectacular view to the
listeners.Fortunately he brought us back in time for:) this krithi i have not heard before- Kritha
purikshetra of tyagaraja. Their classic anna poorne elicited an audible appreciation from the rasikas.
Then came a very elaborate alapana in kalyani(which the brothers revel in singing), both taking turns in
rendering alapana. Raghavachari was in his elements while presenting this. enjoyed himself. Sesha
chary explored every nuance that is to be explored in kalyani. They didn't seem to have the heart to
finish it!!Then came talli ninnu nera with neraval in Syamakrishna paripaalini. This was followed by a
vigorous thani by Easwaran and Madipakkam murali. Since my laya gnanam has its own limitations, i
request someone to please enlighten further on this aspect. The pleasant mannered Akkarai
Subbulakshmi was very competent and drew hearty audience applause frequently.
Thani was followed by Bhaja bhaja manasa in sindubhairavi , Bhoopalam thillana(?BMK?). I thought i
heard `murali' somwhere in the song. The brothers seem to be singing BMK's padams and thillanas
often these days.
Overall it was an enjoyable concert and i came back with the malayamarutham `blowing like a gentle
breeze'(!!!) in my mind.
