12. thirupugazh - hamsAnandi -

An excellent concert overall . Suryaprakash started with a hamsadhwani and a very good swaram pattern . A nice cheta sri in dwijavanthi went well with the crowd , a very good alankAram in "nava champakha nasikham ". pantuvarAli , a rAga that should be handled with a sense of urgency was done with the same gusto . Excellent swara pattern and neraval reminding of immortal mmi

The next arAbi gave me a feeling initially that would be sung like as a good lung filler .He surprised with a wonderful neraval "Agama sancaruDaTa..." and excellent swara pattern. Nice alapanai in huseni(happier mukhAri enveloped in an Anandabhairavi shell) was excellent , though felt the krithi needs little more alankAram. His sarvalaghu downpour in manavyAlakim was excellent too.

The mOhanam was quite good, neraval wonderful , swarams were not the best (The mridangist was little tired and he played only for the violinist during the first half of swarams.). I did not like the meerabhajan much(poor to me) , the viruttam was wonderful especially in kApi + HameerkalyAni. The bhimplas was excellent, the usual thullumatha vetkai in hamsAnandi was not good and was little too rushed.

Ramadas violin was always bowing in the surface sacrificing sound quality. The mridangist ramadas was playing ok , though felt he could not match the speed during pantuvarAli and nalinakAnti.

The best in the concert is the brand new tamil krithi, item #8(unknown composer , lakshman sir help???) that I heard for the first time .This krithi sung in about 15 rAgamaliga rAgas and went as long as 20 minutes . It was a shade better experience than hearing other popular rAgamaligas like sArangan marugane and rAgathil sirandhadu, the reason being it had wonderful and continous meaning, and also connected different popular krithis.

To be more objective ,I am attaching few phrases .They are not perfectly documented , if documented well I will leave it to cmlover, ravi and other great translators to translate if they feel like...

Started with hamsanAdam line devargal arul seidha rAgangale , antha bhAvangalil thoyndha pAdalgale

Just quote few lines nAttai paripAlanum seiyum ... kalyAni unnaiallal yAre gati ... bhairavi nin perumai yaro puriyatha...
ranjani ???...tOdi thAye yashode???...darbAril pAda oru yojanai ....varAli tarum kanakilla ruchiye ....

In the next charanam bhakthan yosithu dhyAname seidhal (dhanyAsi).. bilahari ???...kharaharapriya vagutha rAja mArgam... en vasanthan varAdha mAyamma ... kAPi allikum intha sowkhyathirku eededhu, aRAbi rAgam athu sadhithathe

In the next charanam shanmughapriyannuku thanthai thAi irundhal , sArangan theduvanO arunachalane, athanAle mudivu sonnal hariyum haranum onre(the best to me was the above)...aabhogi... aabheri ...sindhu bhairavi manadhirkku ugandhadhu , veraeDhu mOhana suvai kapale. He deserved a standing ovation on this, and these are great first experiences for me too .

8. devargal arul seidha rAgangale - rAgamaliga - ????

is a composition of R K Suryaprakash himself. Nice, nice list, similar to what he sang here in Bridgewater earlier this year. He definitely has started putting in a lot of effort into each of his concerts, which shows in the selections, reneditions and the detail for each rAgam.

In one of the first few concerts where he sang this, he announced it as a composition of his mother.

In his webiste, RK Suryaprakash lists this as his own composition.

Outstanding list! I'm sure the rAgamAlikA was a treat.

rajeshnat, I think Arabi (not arABI) was also indirectly pointing to the Pancharathna, like for varALi.

Arabi rAgam athu sadhithathe is correct. That 2 posts above sucked lot of time especially to highlight, hence the mistake. I connected the pancharathna krithi in the concert too(tx vocalist).
