I m very well aware that i m not qualified to review a concert but still today's concert (if someone can dare to call it so) tempted me to write. Concert was scheduled to start at 6.30pm but it started at 8.30. My friend said this could stretch till midnight like Mr madurai somu's concert. but shockingly only items played were rtp in hamsadhwani with ragamaalika swaras , pallavi set to aadi taala , 2 kaalai and pavamaana in sourashtra. Rtp was a real treat, which lasted for 1 hour .
anoor anantha krishna sharma in mridanga and guru prasanna in khanjira did a nice job and played their part well.
I m not posting this msg to humiliate the artists since they had no fault on their side. hamsadhwani trust which had organized the programme didnt let the artists to start , since the felicitation and speech by guests (not less than 10 ppl) finished at 8.30 . At the end of the program everyone was disapointed and returned home cursing the organizers. Heavens too showed their disappointment by drizzling over the city.

That hamsadhvani RTP by NAgaraj and MAnjunath must have been a treat after all those himsa dhvanis:)

To each one who gives a long speech,
We beseech! While you think you reach
And touch hearts--we do screech!
Silently--but even if our voices reach
Your ears, you give more speech
As if bewitched with your own speech!

Spoil sports, music lover's bane, long speech givers in a concert!
Debating societies, tostmaster's clubs, yes! In a concert? Tut tut!

Give a loooong speech,
Hear a pained, cheated
Audience's screeeeeech!

(Please note that this is about multiple long speeches in a concert and not about short, to the point ones).

Yes the RTP for one hour was quite a treat. I think it was a very sensible thing to do from the artistes since they got to start only at 8:15 PM. Instead of playing small kritis, they chose to play one big RTP which also had ample scope for the thani avarthanam. They had a bus to catch to kerala at 10 PM, and finished the concert at 9:30 and had to hurry away!

The function preceding this was to honour Sri Mahadevappa (father of Nagaraj and Manjunath), Ananya director Sri Raghavendra and Sri Anoor Ananthakrishna Sharma with the Hamsadhwani award.

The organisers of ,Hamsadwani and the guests must have been very happy to listen to their own voices stumptuously.

On saturday we went to listen to Sri Pattabhirama Pandit at the same venue whose concert was in the evening. We reached around 6:45 when he was singing Thodi alapana. We were assuming this might be the sub-main or maybe the main to be followed with a RTP, but it was indeed the main piece, but that seemed to be the final piece! He finished after a very short thani by 7:30 itself! THis was because the organisers had also scheduled a dance programme after this one!! :( He was singing so well that we felt like listening to him for more.

Why do the organisers have to pack so much for a day? They can neither do proper justice to the music nor the dance. Surely Vid Pattabhirama Pandit didnt deserve a 1 hour concert, like what happened to the Mysore Brothers on friday.

Hi All,
My mom and I were present at the venue at 5.30 to listen to Mysore brothers playing with their illustrous father Mahadevappa (thats what Hamsadhwani advertised in the newspapers). But the organizers bored us to death with their speeches and we walked out of Gayana samaj at 8 thoroughly disappointed. Quiet a few music lovers did the same. (Learnt later that Mahadevappa didn't play at all. ) Such trusts whose only aim is to promote themselves should not organize concerts at all.
Cheers,
Anand

The organizers di,nt even have sufficient time to beat their own trumpets before the Mysore artistes took away the stage. But the brothers know how to react .
