Smt SR announced at the beginning of the concert that 80% of the krithis will be Tamil krithis and 20% will be Tyagaraja and MD krithis. The elaborate viruttam in Karaharapriya and Kalyani alapanai were good with free flowing brigas reminiscent of the GNB/ MLV tradition, and the swaras in these pieces were well done with some kanakku.
But the balance part of the concert was just average. One felt that there should have been atleast one more raga alapana...2 of them (including an elaborate viruttam) for a 2.5 hour concert is just not fulfilling! Except for Swaminatha and Marukelara (the latter was sung as a tukkada), no T and MD pieces...however she had set the expectation right with the announcement in the beginning...I would have however preferred to hear 1/2 weighty pieces of the Trinity than hear tukkadas, if their compositions were to be restricted to 2 pieces...
While Sri Sivaraman's rendered good support on the violin, Sri Skanda Subramaniam's mridangam accompaniment was excellent, not to mention an outstanding thani.
