presentation on tamil composers

In commemoration of the 41st anniversary celebration of Brahma Gana Sabha and Tamil New year’s Day, Dr.Radha Bhaskar will present a special programme on Tamil music composers on 14th April, 6.30p.m at Sivakami Pethachi Auditorium, Alwarpet. She will be accompanied by Aishwarya Shankar and K.P.Nandini (vocal), Melakkaveri Thiagarajan (violin) and Thillasthanam Suryanarayanan ( mrudangam). The programme will trace the contribution of 15 Tamil composers and will also present suitable compositions. All are welcome. For details – 28264493

I attended this program and found to be very useful and informative. All three vocalisits did well along with the accompaniments. Kudos to Dr Radha for such an exercise for the rasikas. Please continue to present such thematic programs on a regular basis.

Dr Radha briefed about the aspects Carnatic music and the contributions of various Tamil Composers. It started with Andal thiruppavai, covered about 15 + Tamil composers limited to the paucity of time (2 hrs). Some of the composers covered as far as I can recollect are Oothukkadu Venkatakavi, Nilakanta Sivan, Papanasam Sivan, Gopalakrishan Baradhi, Syama shastri (surprisingly has rendered few Tamil kritis if I remember correct), Subramanya bharathi, Koteeswara Iyer, Ambujam Krishna, Lalgudi etc.,
Couple of songs were picked from each of these composers and presented with a brief about the composer's biography.
