Re: SRINIVASA THIRUVENKATA MUDAIYAN - HAMSANANDHI (SIVAN)

Place to go if you want to ask someone identify raga, tala, composer etc or ask for sāhitya (lyrics) or notations or translations.

In the above song, some musicians sing "Dheena sharanyan enum PEYAR
kondaai" while others sing "Dheena sharanyan enum PUGAZH kondaai" Which one is authentic ?

Ravi,
I was thinking the same thing. I have heard it sung as 'peyar'.
However, isn't the pallavi line: SrInivAsA! tiruvEngadamuDaiyAi? (addressing him?).

PEYAR- HE does not have a NAME as Dheena Sharanyan. I do not think that this is one of the Sahasra namams nor is it used as "Dheena Sharanyaaaya namaha" in archanai. Therefore the more correct one will be "Pugazh kondaai".

Alternatively, we can say Dheena sharanyan ENRU peyar (meaning fame)kondaai, which will then be the same as "ENUM PUGAZH".

Popular way of rendition is "enum peyar kondaai". It of course sounds better.

Srinivasa tiru...maudayai.

Dheena saranyan enum pugazh... kondai. There is no name. It is a fame only.
dheenan enaippol ... kandai.

Dheena sharanyan enum "pugazh kondaai" is the authentic version learnt from shri Sethalapathi Balu mama a direct disciple of Shri Sivan.

Shri mama said Madurai mani also learnt this sahityam from Shri Sivan and used to sing this. He sang the phrase "Jaganaathaaa!!! shankha chakra dharane" like MMI, it sounded like MMI himself was singing before me. Amazing krithi, amazing teacher Sethalapathi Balu Mama. He used to point to himself while singing the phrase "Dheenan enaippol vaerevar kandaai".
