75 Birthday Celebrations: Sangita Kalanidhi Smt R. Vedavalli

It gives me great pleasure to post this information here, on behalf of all the disciples of our revered Guru, Sangita Kalanidhi Smt. R. Vedavalli.

We, the disciples of Smt. R. Vedavalli, have organized a two day event to celebrate the 75th year of our Guru, on the 13th and 14th of November, 2010 at Raga Sudha Hall, Mylapore, in a manner befitting her exalted stature as a senior artist and a great Guru. It is a celebration not just of the years one lives but a sincere and respectful dedication to an artiste who has stood by her commitment to Carnatic music and continues to do so.

We cordially invite all rasikas to this 'panCasaptati samArOha' to be held in honour of our Guru at Ragasudha Hall, Luz, Chennai. The programme is as follows:

A musical presentation of Shahaji Maharaja's 'Pallaki Seva Prabandha' by the disciples of Smt. R. Vedavalli, in association with Naada Inbam

This work of the ruler of Tanjavur, was presented many years ago by Smt. R. Vedavalli when it was still obscure and quite unknown. This is a geyanatakam where Parvati suffers pangs of separation from her Lord, Tyagesha of Tiruvarur. With the ingenuity of her sakhis, she unites with her Lord. Tyagesha, who then arrives in a magnificent gem bedecked ‘pallaki’ or palanquin and the finale is the union of Siva and Parvati.
