Opening the concert with a bright rendering of Nadathanumanisam., Amirtha Murali went on to present uncompromisingly classical raga essays of Bhairavi, Varali and Sankarabharanam bringing out the Swarupa of the ragas. Her deep bass voice lent great weight to the sancharas, more so, in the lower register.

The selection of the monumental creations of Dikshitar and the hauntingly elegant compositionof Gopalakrishna Bharathi bore testimony to her deep commitment to classicism and were presented with an innate understanding of the beauty of the sahityas.

The neravals and the appropriate, but not overdone, swaraprastharas exemplified her musical skills combined with great concern for vivid musical presentation. The swara finale for Akshaya Linga Vibho was noteworthy for its infectiously enjoyable rhythmic lilt.

But the delectable piece of the concert was the highly emotive rendering of Yekkalathilum . No raga prelude, neraval or swaras. But one felt transported to the presence of Nataraja in Chidambaram. Great Music indeed.

The beauteous raga essays and the intuitively understanding accompaniment of Padma Shankar and the rhythmic and embellishing skills of Sivakumar added greatly to the enjoyment of the music.
