Basic swaras complication - newbie

Post by thangap »

Hello All,

I appreciate the effort put in for the exaltation of carnatic music.

I'm a newbie started carnatic classes and have been learning for past 9 months. But I feel so uncomfortable and still err in the swarams. I'm still not so confident with the frequency they are actually present. I believe its easy to learn from an instrument as we see where we place our strokes, but when it comes to vocal, i'm to be precise, unimaginable. I'm quite disturbed with the factor that i'm still struggling with the basic foundation.

I have been doing some research on various ways to enhance myself. Please help me in right direction. I request the experienced people to guide me. There are many questions popping out. But I would like to receive answers in a slow phase after I erect myself with the strong foundation. I do practise everyday and keenly listen to the audios of swarams. Presently I'm proceeding with geethams.

Please also help me in finding http://www.sangeethamshare.org/chandra/ ... hods-2007/.

Thank you,
Savegi

Mastering the swara-sthAnAs is not an easy task. There's nothing to be 'disturbed' about it. In fact, it's good to know ones defect in such early stage; we can work on it and improve our skills.

Learning an instrument is not any easier either. Instrumentalist spend enormous amount of time developing and perfecting their technique. If there's even a minor defect in the posture or fingering, it'll have very serious consequences.

But again, sruti and laya matters are practised away from the instrument.

All the best.
