There is a news item in the members' lounge on this topic that referes to a press release that there will be FOUR awards this year to M/S T.V. Ramachandran, V.V. Subramanian, Karaikkudi Mani and T.H. Vinayakram. I could not locate the press release from the Music Academy. If this news is true, it is really welcome. I have been suggesting at least TWO awards each year, one for a vocalist and one for an instrumentalist for the past several years in this web site and many other places so as to keep up with the increasing number of deserving artists. At last it has come to materialise, If the news is true. I have also been suggesting TVR for the award for many years.

Part of a wide range of reforms, including open membership of the Academy, and awards to be given according to ballot among the members. A hurried addition to what is almost a new constitution for the organisation prohibits artists from canvassing members for their votes, and especially outlaws the distribution of saris and vestis, in their favourite colours, to rasikas.
