Taye En Saraswati Lyrics ; Taalam of KalyANi RTP
Track 3 in : http://www.mediafire.com/?jzvunnfv21t contains 2 songs.
So, I have split, and uploaded the 2 songs as :
1) Taye-En-Srswti_NskbhsnNi_Q : http://www.sendspace.com/file/skvcg5
I would like to have the Lyrics, Ragam (NasikabhishaNI ?), Taalam and Composer of this song.
[A search in this site, and other sites, did not yield the reqd lyrics for me.]
**************
2) HrHra-StnAiyppa_KlyNi-RTP_Q : http://www.sendspace.com/file/236o4z
Just the Taalam Info of this short (and quick Taanam) KalyANi RTP.
The Pallavi Lyrics is very clear.
Since there is NO Lyrics' request (just want to know the Taalam here), I have clubbed these 2 requests in the same post, which is also the logical thing to do in this case.
TIA

I think the pallavi is set to Misra Jathi Triputa tala (2-kalai) with the eduppu being on the 2nd beat (little finger).
When mrudangam is played for tanam there is usually no set tala.

A) Thanks Mohan, yes, I meant the Taalam for the Pallavi ie, the KalyANi song : Harihara Sutan Aiyappa ...
What I wanted to convey by “short” was that the RTP itself is short (only 15:41 m), and the Taanam part too, is quite quick.
One-part reason why the whole RTP time is short, is because the Violin was not allowed a “Tani” for the Alapanai (after the Alapanai, Yesudas directly launches into a High Speed Taanam), nor for the Taanam part (||larly, immly after the Taanam, he directly starts with the Pallavi).
It seems to me that in the Pallavi, (more apparent in the initial part of the Pallavi), both Yesudas and the Violonist have purposely projected a subtle Hindustani Yaman style also (more so, very well projected by the Violinist, taking the cue from Yesudas ?) ?
Did you also notice it ?
Any guess on who the Violinist is ?
**************
B) In elaborate Taanams in Kutcheris, I have always enjoyed the Taanam more, if it is accompanied by Mridangam. For eg, RK Padmanabha in his Taanams esp KalyANi Taanam, with Cheluvaraj on the Mridangam – he has a deep well suited voice for Taanam.
So, in such elaborate Taanams with Mridangam, would it not be better if they choose a certain set Taalam, say coinciding with the Taalam of the Pallavi, which they are about to sing – after all, they do discuss before an RTP ?
In this context, therefore, I would like to have more analysis of yr stmt :
>> When Mrudangam is played for Taanam, there is usually no set Tala.
Also, why do we hear so less of Taanams with Mridangam ?
Are there certain Ragams (like KalyANi – in both the above cases) that yield themselves better to Taanam with Mridangam ? If so, would like to know about 5 – 6 other Top such Ragams. And why so ? Would welcome some analysis on these lines.
TIA

2 Egs of Taanam-with-Mridangam in Arabhi Ragam, both by KVN
14/7/11
B) As I wait for an analysis of Taanams, let me add another example of 2 wonderful Arabhi Ragam’s Taanam-with-Mridangam, both by KVN, and for the same Song :
i) Song No 7 in : http://prakasharashmi.blogspot.com/2010 ... ad-kv.html : Pahi Parvata Nandini - Arabhi, ST – by KVN, NM, VR :
I have uploaded just this Arabhi Song as :
http://www.sendspace.com/file/4xii9s
Listen to the Taanam-with-Mridangam part from 10:10 m to 17:25 m.
Listen to the wonderful Violin by NM throughout in this RTP.
ii) The same Song by 3 Stalwarts KVN, LGJ, PMI, again the Taanam-with-Mridangam – pl refer to the Uploaded Taanam part at :
http://www.sendspace.com/file/n99zo9
Listen to the wonderful Mridangam by PMI in this RTP.
- Would like to get a confirmation of the Taalam in both the above Taanams.
***********
- Any other examples of Other Ragams’ Taanam-with-Mridangam ?
PS : Recently (in 2011), I had the chance to listen to another Arabhi RTP (some other Pallavi, I can’t recall now), as part of a private function.

All of the tAnams at the navarAtri maNTapam concerts have mRdangam accompaniment. Outside of these concerts, it is usual to have the tAnam withour mRdangam. Also, many vaiNikas end all of their rAga AlApanas with a short - a few second's worth of (but to me, absolutely delectable) tAnam.

Thanks rshankar for these 2 facts of Taanams.
I now recall faintly that I may have heard the first fact.
The 2nd fact that many vaiNikas end the Alapanai with a Taanam, is new to me. Next time, I might look out for it keenly.
I am curious to know the reason. Is it because the Veena is a fretted instrument ? ie, does any fretted instrument lend itself more naturally to Taanam ?
BTW, can we notice this in say, E Gayatri’s CDs ?
So, as per yr Rule 1 above, RKP’s Kalyani Taanam in a Kutcheri in Bangalore, is an exception ?
In fact, I distinctly remember that RKP enjoyed the Alapanai well, and then had a word with Cheluvaraj before proceeding with the extensive Taanam, which I enjoyed immensely.
I am almost sure that I may have probably heard his Kalyani RTP, a 2nd time too, in a diff venue in Blr – have to look into my Kutcehri records to be sure of the date and venue.

Is there any link to a Valaji Taanam - with or without Mridangam ?
Somehow, I feel that this Ragam is wonderfully suited for a Taanam (no proof, just hunch).
Therefore want to get some links of Valaji Taanam.
