Re: Lyrics/Translation of Hari Palane Jhulave
Just realized this CD has a folder insert with the lyrics. I'm not sure if the transliteration is accurate so I will post here and invite corrections. Also, would still love to get a translation.
jasoda haripalane jhulave.....
Halravai dulrai malhavai joi soi kachu gavai.
Mere lal ko aaoon nindiriya kahe a aani suaavai....
Tukahe na begi si aavai took kanh bulavai.
Kabahun palak hari mundi let hai kabahunadhar pharkavai....
Sovat jaani maun hvai hvai rahi kar sain batavai.
Ihi antar akulai utte hari jasumati madhure gaavai.....
Jo such Sur amar muni durlabh so nanad bhamini pavai.
jasoda haripalane jhulave.....
Halravai dulrai malhavai joi soi kachu gavai.
Mere lal ko aaoon nindiriya kahe a aani suaavai....
Tukahe na begi si aavai took kanh bulavai.

Re: Lyrics/Translation of Hari Palane Jhulave
This is one of my favorites... here is my try:
jasodA hari pAlane jhulavE.....
halrAi dulrAi manAvE joi soi kachu gavE
Mother yaSodA (jasodA) swings(jhulAvE) SrI hari in his cradle(pAlane). She mildly swings(halarAi) him and lovingly hugs(dularAi) him, she cajoles (manAve) him and sings (gAve) whatever (joi soi) something (kacchu) comes on her lips.
mere lAl ko AU nindariya kahe na Ani suhAvE....
tU kAhe nahi begi hi AvE tO kO kanh bulavE
O sleep(nindariyA)! Come(AU) to my(mere) beloved son(lAl)! Due to his tireness, he does wish to accept (na suhAve) anything (Ani). Why (kAhe) don't you(tU) come(nahi Ave) with a haste(begi hi)? My krishna (kAnh) is calling(bulAve) you(tO kO)!
kabahUn palak hari mundi let hai kabahUn adhar pharkaE....
sovat jAni maun hvai kahi rahi kari kari sain batavE
Sometimes(kabahUn) SrI hari covers(mundi let hai) his eyes with his eyelids(palak) and sometimes(kabahUn) he makes movements(pharkAE) with his lips(adhar). Knowing(jAni) that her son is asleep(sovat), she tells(kahi rahi) everyone around to be queit(maun hvai) and uses sign language(kari kari sain) to communicate(batAvE).
ihi antar akulai uthe hari jasumati madhure gAvE.....
jo sukh sUr amar muni durlabh so nand bhamini pavE
In between all this(ihi antar) SrI hari restlessly(akulAi) woke up(uThe) and mother yaSodA (jasumati) again sung(gAve) very sweetly(madhure) for him. The poet sUrdAs (sUr) says that the(jo) happiness(sukh) that is not attainable(durlabh) to the devatAs(amar) and great ascetics(muni), that(so) happiness was being enjoyed(pAve) by the wife(bhAmini) of King nanda!

Krishnaa - welcome back! Nice one! Wasn't this song used in one of the mahAbhArat episodes that dealt with kRshNa lIlA?

Thanks Ravi!
Yes, it has been used in mAhAbhArat, when mother yaSodA makes little kRSNa sleep.

Thanks! Does anyone know the rAgam for this song? I'm specifically interested in the version sung by O.S. Arun on his Surdas CD put out by Carsur.
