Success of a concert depends largely on the selection of kritis which may be some what contrast in nature and time tested for them to build a rapport with an audience comprising of 95% laymen and the rest may be connoisseurs. Coupled with this if the artist can have a sAreeram that has this 3 essential ingredients – melody, azuththam and bhAvam then there need not be much speculation about the concert being a success.
The concert of KG had the above things in ample measure and the good looking vidushi not only enthralled but also impressed.
The liberal round of svarams sung for dinamNivamsa brought out the innate beauty of HK.The submain DhanyAsi was dealt with a lot of weighty sanchArAs and the kriti was sung with utmost bhAvam and the niraval and svarms added beauty to the composition like a pair of nose rings to a woman’s face.
She sang a brilliant kAmbOdhi that traversed all 3 octaves with brigha – gamaka laden long phrases that instantly made one to tell a ‘sabAsh..’.But she could have restrained a bit on the niraval which was some what lengthy and since she has covered everything in the AlApanai the overall tempo sagged a bit here.Again she rose in the svara segment and on the whole she gave a royal treatment to the kAmbOdhi.
Rajeev played supporting the main artist throughout and his replies of DhanyAsi and kAmbOdhi were genuine.
BS played beautifully and his ‘chollus’in tani had such a ‘spashtam’ it sounded almost like konnakkOl.Guru Prasad added beauty and weight to the concert by his prudent playing.
KG is surely one of the singers who can be counted in the long run.Good !

Very nice selection of songs. I have heard her in the radio a few times and she sings well. Namoralikimpa is famous in the Musiri school.I think she is the student of one of the Suguna Mamis. Thanks for the review.

They announced this as 'ThyagarAja ArAdhanai';so I also think only the saint's kritis should be sung.Today is OST.rajeshnat wrote:Tx for the review, looks like it was an exclusive ThyagarAja festival in ayOdhya mantapam
