Oli, our yearlong project to revisit the mic-less chamber music tradition, offers two concerts per month. Senior artistes showcase their style, young artistes reclaim heritage with a theme-based recital. The first concert was a great success. We bring you the second concert for this month on the 18th of Feb.
There have been a couple of programs recently which, for me, have been more like my experience of some Hindustani music: more experiences of the inner self, enjoyed with eyes shut. More soul-soothing than foot-tapping --- that's a very bad analogy, but I haven't quite got the words, just now, to express what I mean.
Anway, these are programs from which I take home the experience, the feeling, the glow, rather than any particular song or detail.
I'm aware of having had to work a little hard to hear her voice, so I wasn't lost in a cloud all evening! . Mic-less really is a challenge both for performer and audience.
Rasikas.org members seem to have picked up on the Oli concerts as of number three only, and proper reviews by our experienced members can be read of Sumithra's concert. Somehow, the first two didn't seem to quite penetrate rasikas.org, even though Oli's desire is one that has been regularly expressed among us.
