Rithvik raja at Bhairavi puduchery on18 th march

Rithvik raja- vocal
Vijay – violin
Praveen kumar- mrudangam

Viriboni—varnam
Rama nee pai -kedaram
Nadhadhi guruguho –mayamalava gowla
Nidhichala sugama –kalyani
Vinatha sudha- jayanthasena
Bahudhari – ragam, thanam followed by brovabarama
Thani
Tirupathi venkataramana-sindhubhairavi
Chinnanchiru kiliye-ragamalika
Muddhugare yashodha- kurinjee
Thillana – hamsanandhi
Mangalam

Kalyani ,the second main was graceful and elegant. It was serene and reposeful befitting the mood of the composition. The swaras were short and not tortuous Bahudhari came out sparkling in full colours; after the thanam came the krithi brovabarama instead of a pallavi. The swara pattern somehow reminded of MMI. Not a single tamil song in the whole concert! Oh no, a Chinnanchiru kili was there as raga malika but neither the hamirkalyani nor the bhairavi could resuscitate it.- poor Bharathi. One felt that the voice of the young Rithvik raja needed some more “ajutham” to sustain a full 2 ½ hour concert.A detailed Sivan or Oothukadu after the kalyani could have made the concert wholesome.Vijay’s violin was very melodious and apt .He was self effacing and unostentatious. Praveen kumar’s mrudangam was adequate, though the korvai after the peria mora in the thani was slippery. The audience was receptive and gave encouragement to the young team with liberal applause.

Young Ritvik will do much better as his experience grows, I'm sure.

Ponbhairavi,
To sing a bhArathi song or not, is not the question! How to bring out the feeling in them is the thing. It may not be as difficult--as with
singing with bhAvam a Trinity song where one has to know the meaning of the words to emote--raga bhAvam aside. Of course, more and more songs of Bharathi need to be sung, but 'how', that too in Puduchery where those emotive songs sprung out of the bard!

As a poet, you would have responded to the rendering aptly. While the words are easy to understand, the underlying bhAvam is perhaps what singers have to try and capture.
There is a small sabha I know of where they expect a performer to sing an RTP, that too in a not so popular a rAgam. Perhaps at Bhairavi, you could ask them to sing two Bharathi songs, at least one of them not being as familiar as kiLiyE!

we do not ask for or even suggest any particular song ( let alone two )We leave it to the artist to put his best foot forward.
