Rare S. Balasaraswati Devi song Malligaipoo

Post by venkatakailasam »

"A very beautiful adaptation from Chaplin's CITY LIGHTS. Forget the source! Enjoy the genius deployed in adapting from the original: La Violetera (Stanley Black's version"

I understand from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raavu_Balasaraswathi that this song was attributed to R Balasaraswathi in the film
1954 Rajee En Kanmani Tamil Malligaipoo Jathi Roja -S. Hanumantha Rao and also She played the role of Tukaram’s daughter in Tukaram (1938). where Tukaram role was portrayed by Musiri Subramania Iyer in Tamil version .....

V.Kailasam,
so nice to hear this lovely song after many years. I knew it was sung by a Balasaraswathi, but did not know it was
Thanks for the song. the dancer Balasaraswathi. A few years ago I was at a doctor's waiting room, when I heard this tune (instrumental) and was so surprised. I went and asked the receptionist what song was that and she said it is a Cuban Cafe song and I told her we had an old movie song in that tune! That day I googled this song and listened to it. I never thought I'd hear about this song again after a few years!

Maduraimini, the singer is not the legendary dancer, Smt. T. Balasaraswati, but another Balasaraswati.

RShankar,
Thanks for clarifying that it is not the legendary dancer who sang this beautiful song, but a Balasaraswathi. It was my fault. I saw some dance You Tubes of The Balasaraswathi on the side and imagined it was her. But I was so surprised because I never knew she sang for movies! You made it clear now and I thank you for that. Whoever sang this lilting song, it is a lovely song.
