Nadaloka-veena concert /lec by Vidwan b Sivakumar

Vidwan Sivakumar gave ample display of his artistry in this program for Nadaloka. He started off with a sahana varnam in two speeds before which he explained the difference between Sahana and Dwijavanti. The next item was the grand Bhairavi Swarajathi where he explained the uniqueness of Bhairavi by contrasting it with Karaharapriya.
He then played an excellent Begada explaining the unique usage of "Ni" and "Ma" in Begada. The raga and the kriti dripped with the raga bhava, be it in the slower or faster paces. After the Karnaranjani piece of Muthiah Bhagavathar, "Vancha Thonuna", he explained how gamakas made difference in playing/singing, using Mayamalagowlai as example.

The main piece palyed was a beautiful kalyani and "Nidi Chala sukhama". He concluded the recital with "Govardhana Giridhara" and " karadara". Vidwan Sudarshan accompanied the veena very aesthetically. Sivakumar was also ably assisted by his student Mrs.Priyadarshini, who played some beautiful pidis in Bhairavi.
