Vadya Vaibhava - NGMK at Gayana Samaja Aug 11

Dear rasikas,
I waited hoping someone more competent would post on this concert. At Gayana Samaja, on Aug. 11, MSG was honoured with the title Nada Shri. The new 'instrumental concerts only' series commenced this year, an initiative the Gayana Samaja acknowledged was created by Kumaresh. The idea was kicked off with a fitting tribute to the violin legend MSG.
Despite long speeches lasting well over an hour, the audience stayed on patiently for the music. This novel ensemble of four violins, Mysore Nagaraj, Ganesh, Manjunath, Kumaresh, seated on a large stage with two mridangams Ramanamurthy and Ananth R. Krishnan, was itself a feast for the eyes. Technical prowess was unleashed, but with good understanding and camaraderie by these wonderful four masters. Sriraga varna, Vatapi, Marivere-A Bhairavi, and then a sumptuous RTP in NasikaBhooshani(I didn't figure it out :tmi: ), followed by a well-balanced tani and then Tamburi Meetidava in Sindhu Bhairavi. The tanam and the string of ragas at the end of the pallavi showcased the manodharma and technical strengths of the four violinists. The combined decibel was touching hundred perhaps but still the overall experience was beautiful. Nagaraj was his usual expressive self, Manjunath effusive, Kumaresh ebullient and Ganesh elegant in approach. They paid a unique tribute to the MSG and Lalgudi banis by emulating their trademark manodharma in ample measure. A gracious MSG stayed till the tanam and showed his keen appreciation to the foursome. We were all grateful for the wonderful four V's= 'Vishishta' 'Violin' 'Vadya' 'Varsha'. Thank you Kumaresh!

@ Rsachi... I had the same hope too..

This kind of historic events need to be reported live...

At some points, when i closed my eyes ( especially the birkas of the RTP).. could not distinguish who was playing,... Even though all 4 have unique styles of playing, one could not recognise the difference when they were on stage..

in simplest words.. blesssed were the ones who were there to witness history in the making... and 2 eyes / 2 ears were too less to live the moment !!

Oh sure! Sankara TV recorded with two cameras and a good audio mixer. They told me they will broadcast it this week.

EDIT: From what I can see on Jayan's blog, the felicitation and the performance was to happen on the 15th. Did the schedule change? Does it mean the nadaswaram concert is going to happen today instead?

Nadaswaram is scheduled for today.
Yes they changed the schedule to accommodate SM Krishna but finally only his wife came.
The swap turned out to be appropriate so that the series Vadya Vaibhava got off to a big start with MSG being honoured and blessed by Avani Sankara Math Swamiji.
