There's a nice picture in the print edition, but, unfortunately, not on the site.The Alliance Française of Madras (AFM) presents the premiere of Manakkal S Rangarajan: Carnatic Musician Of The Era, a Tamil documentary on the 90-year-old Carnatic vocalist. Born in 1922 in a family of musicians, Manakkal S Rangarajan’s fast-paced renditions and control over delineation of ragas made him a legendary singer.
The 75-minute documentary shot in Tamil Nadu and London chronicles the singer’s life and times and also features many interviews / tributes of senior and younger musicians. It also has excerpts from his performances. It is produced by R. Pathmanaba Iyer and directed by Amshan Kumar, a writer and filmmaker.
It will be screened with subtitles in English at 6 p.m. on September 9 at Edouard Michelin Auditorium, AFM, No. 24, College Road, Nungambakkam. The screening is open to all. For details, call 2827-9803 / 2827-1477.
