1. Varnam -Nera Nammiti - Kaanada - RSI
2. Sri Kantha Neeyeda - Bhavapriya - T (S)
3. Dinamani Vamsa - HariKambhoji - T
4. Ksheenamai - Mukhari - T (RNS)
5. Gopanandana - Bhushavali - ST
6. Dakshinamoorthe - Sankarabharanam - MD (RNS)
7. Thani
8. Chinnanchiru Kiliye - Ragamalika - B
9. Tharula - Nattaikurinji - ?
10. Kanakasaila - Punnagavarali - SS
11. Bruhi Mukundeti - Chenchurutti - SB
12. Mangalam

It was a good concert by G. Ravikiran and team.
The pre thani was a typical Semmangudi list.
The pick of the concert was the sankarabharanam and mukhari.
The power going off frequently was an irritant, but despite it, the concert was good.

For me the pick of the day was mukhari. Raga was rendered in an excellent way and the lovely semmangudi piece to go with it.

Other side news- both violinist and mridangam artist came late. Mridangam vidwan came so late that the concert started without him!! Also I was told that Ravikiran had a flight to catch that night . My neighbour was joking that the unique Carnatic instrument Ghatam, was unhappy that it is always relegated to the position of UPApakkavadhyam. Hence it must have been happy yesterday to play the role of the main instrument at least for one varnam :)

Power was a pain. However there was a UPS to take care of the mike and minimum lighting. But hats off to Ravikiran. He was absolutely concentrating on music and sang very well.

I too have noticed, Ravikiran is a very committed singer. Just unmindful of the what goes around him
(inadequacies in arrangements etc ) he goes on, fully involved with his music. A rare attribute and surely
his singing reflects the 'swanubhavam'.

My family has always admired G Ravikiran - for his music, his passion for the artform - I'm told he has been singing literally everyday during Navarathri in different parts of Kerala - manages a wonderful trust dedicated to Shri MD - and has a rather busy tough professional life ...and much more....
Pity we missed this good concert :(

looks like it was a good concert featuring Semmangudi favourites. Little surprised there was no major piece on Devi considering this concert was during Navaratri.

Actually kanakasaile was sung after someone from audience prompted "ambaaL".

I think before commenting about artists coming late in forums like this, people need to have the basic respect for such renowned artists and not just let their tongues loose like this. This is a Rasikas forum and there is no necessity of commenting about which artists came late. Talk about their calibre and concert quality and not such things which dont matter!

anonymous_9999 - I don't see any harm in discussing late arrival of musicians which results in concert delays. If a concert is advertised for a certain time it is up to the organisers and artistes to stick to that time. Sure there may have been reasons (such as Bangalore traffic) but the onus is on the artist and organisers to take such things into account.

Discussing such issues will hopefully help debunk the ongoing joke about IST (Indian Standard Time).

IST is the joke.

About IST:
1. NRN: Why is IST always running late?
2. Reception committee to their honoured guest waiting on the railway platform whom they went (late) to receive at the station: 'sorry sir, the train is usually late but came on time today'.
3. An Indian family I knew in Sydney who ALWAYS go late for social functions, said when I asked them why: it is a bit indecent to go in time.
4. What is Indian Economic Policy? 'Slow and steady wins the race'.
5. Why is the Indian god Shani so important? Unlike his father (Surya), he is always late. (Shani means slow/late, etc in Sanskrit).
6. Why do Indians always talk about the past? Because they are always 'late'.
7. Indian favourite cricket terms: late in-swinger, late cut.
8. Why don't you find Indian waiters and waitresses abroad!? Because they make others wait.

(I made up the last four as I typed now).

Nice set.
I did not know the parentage of shani so far. Thanks. I only only knew that he rides a crow ( or is it some other bird / animal?)
Talking of lates, one board on the highways that had caught my attention was "better late than be Late"- like Late mr.kssr!
I am also told that Indians visiting singapore are invariably late to meetings as they do not reset the Indian time on their watches.

Or the navagraha stOtram that goes 'chAyA mArtANDa sambhUtam, tam namAmi SanaiSvaram'...Father - Sun, mother - chAyA (who arose from the shadow of sUrya bhagavAn's first wife, sanjanA) - IIRC, Sri dIkshitar also refers to Sani bhagavAn as the son of chAyA (in the last part of the song Ramesh mentioned - as '...chAyA dEvI sUnum')

Wah! Wah! I should concede that I am not as cultivated musically or linguistically to achieve that level of analysis and understanding , except in case of some tamizh songs. Thanks for the clarification. I will try to remember.
