Abhishek Raghuram - CSES - Hyd - 6th feb2013

Post by sivakami »

Sri Chandrasekharendra Sangeeta Educational Society’s14th Annual Cultural Festival & Aradhana of Satguru Sri Thyagaraja Swami
6th February 2013

This was the inaugural day of this 5-day series being held at Secunderabad. Rasikas knowing the potential of the” Sheik” had arrived in large numbers on time not to miss anything. In this scintillating concert with his special acrobatics, Abishek treated us to a delightful evening providing a kick-start to the proceedings.

Abishek Raghuram
Akkarai Subbalakshmi
Vankayala Narasimham - Mridangam
P V Ramana Murthy - ghatam

Song list:
1. Karunimpa – sahana varnam
2. Rama nee pai thanakku – Kedaram - T
3. Gnanamosaga radha – purvikalyani – T ( N@ paripoorna..)
4. Sreerama jayarama – Yadhukula khamboji - T
5. Lakshanamu gala ramunikki – suddha saveri - T
6. Mokshamu galada – Saramati –T ( R:15min, vio- 10 min, S@ mokshamu)
7. Brilliant tani for 14 min
8. Elara sri krishna – Khamboji -T
9. Raga malika alapana briefly followed by ‘Arabhimanam vaithu’- ragamalika swarams in durbar, bhairavi, Kamala manohari
10. Adi deva paramatma – annamayya (after a 2min alapana) – Revathi( I thought, not sindhu bhairavi) – was close to a hindusthani style rendition..
11. Mangalam.

This Rocking concert reminded us of Abhishek’s performance for the Sharada Cultural Trust, a few years ago, (I think he was around 16 then), which was our first time exposure to his caliber, which has further matured over the years. AKkarai Subbalakshmi had also come that year, although I am not able to recollect whether it was to accompany Abhishek or someone else. I just love her exact returns of every note on her violin with that sweet smile. Someone said that the Hyd sisters were spotted sitting in the front row till the end, lauding this team wonderful team on stage. All the 3 accompanyists were marvelous. Vankayala garu was great on mridangam, while PVR on ghatam was also extra-ordinary (I have noted his subdued-playing many times), perhaps due to that special appreciation from Abishek. Every song was a gem. Only the extended round of kalpana swarams in a couple of items became monotonous, I felt. Perhaps in that exciting mood, the artiste wishes to dwell for quite a while. As these annual treats are rare for us here, we long to listen to some more items, rather than these. When the concert was concluded at around 9.20 PM after 2 hrs and 15 min or so, I think the crowd was still dissatisfied and were willing to listen for some more time.
On the whole, it was an o-o-o-u-u-utstanding kutcheri.

Thanks to Sri. Chandrasekharan Sir of the CSES for organizing this concert. I am sure Revanth will have more to say about the 9th & 10th Feb concerts!!

I missed these concerts due to the college work. Hyderabad Sisters try and make it to many concerts. I met them a couple of times when they go to greet the artistes after the concert. They are really humble. They are a wonderful duo. And Abhishek Raghuram!!! I am sure it was a treat listening to his music. Kedaram and Sudhdasaveri must have sounded immensely beautiful in his voice. And Saramathi for fifteen minutes? Wow! I hope, I wont miss his concert the next time he sings here. Thank you so much for sharing the list mami!
