Smt. Kalpakam Swaminathan Book Release Function - Apr 6 2013

Dear friends, well-wishers and rasikas,

Saturday, April 6, 2013 marks Smt. Kalpakam Swaminathan's second anniversary. On this occasion, we are happy to announce the release of a print version of a first volume of her notations of Dikshitar kritis, typeset from a notebook of her handwritten notations. The project was started around Aug 2009 with Smt. Kalpakam Swaminathan's blessings.

This first volume contains 108 kritis, with shuddha-sahityam and notations in tamil, that include the Nottusvara Sahityams, kritis on Ganesha, Subrahmanya/Guruguha, Sarasvati, Lakshmi, and Devi, including the Abhayamba Vibhakti kritis and the Kamalamba Navavaranam, constituting roughly a half of the kritis in her notebook. Copies of the book will be available at a book release function at Arkay Convention Center in Mylapore, Madras on Sat, April 6th, 2013, between 10am and 12:30pm, that will be compered by Prof. T.T.Narendran. The program details are as follows:

Smt. Mangalam Sankar (daughter-in-law of Smt. Kalpakam Swaminathan) will preside over the function and hand the first copies of the book to the guests of honor. Dr. S.Seetha, Prof. S.R.Janakiraman, and Thanjavur Sri Kumar have kindly consented to be the guests of honor and receive copies of the book. The guests of honor will share their memories of Smt. Kalpakam Swaminathan, as also will students and rasikas, including Dr.L.Ramakrishnan, Sri Gomathi Shankar, Dr.R.Asha, and Sri.R.Bharath.

The program will feature a vina recital by Smt. S.R.Padmavati and Smt. S.R.Radha, accompanied by Thanjavur Sri. Kumar on the mridangam.

Best wishes! I see at least 2 forumites who were Smt. Kalpakam's disciples (Ramki/Vainika and Bharath) who are part of this function - I hope they are able to post relevant clips...
