WEBCAST BY PAALAM-SIKKIL GURUCHARAN AT MUDHRA

Post by CRama »

We, the music lovers should be much grateful to Paalam for the service they are rendering by webcast of the music concerts organised by Mudhra during Dec 2012. Yesterday, 23 June, it was by Sikkil Gurucharan. He was ably accompanied by HK Venkatram on the violin, Mannargudi Easwaran on the Mridangam and B.S Purushotham on the Ganjira. The highlights of the concert were Saarasasamamridu in Gowrimanohari, a compostion of Swati Thirunal as the main song and an RTP in Saveri. The list of songs:
Varnam- Natakurinji.
Pahimam sree Rajarajeswari-Janaranjini
Maaramanan-Hindolam
Sree Ramaasarawathy-Naasaamani.
Nenenduvedagudura-Karnatakabehag.
Saarasasamamridu-Gowrimanohari.
Pitham theliya-Chenjuruti.
RTP- Saveri
A song of Sadasiva brahmendrar
Thillana- Desh- Lalgudi
Mangalam – Sree Rama jayamangalam of Aruachalakavi.

Janaranjini had interesting kalpana swaras with beautiful combinations. Maaramanan had a lovely neraval at Thayin migu dayaaparan which I had not heard from anybody else earlier. But no swaras.
Nasamani was also elaborated well showing the vivadi swaras very distinctly. Gowrimanohari for the main song, I was longing to hear for so many days. And that song is not frequently heard . It had all the aspects, ragam alapana, violin, kriti rendition, neraval and swaras with plenty of kuriappu rendered very well. This song contains lot of swaraakshara prayogas, which you can see in many other kritis of ST as well. HKV violin was supportive throughout- never intrusive. ME played excellently and his thani was quite absorbing. Ganjira also provided good support

After a filler- Pitham theliya in Chenjuruti, the RTP in Saveri was also presented very well, with ample space for raga alapana, thanam and pallavi, trikalam etc . The pallavi was in Misrachapu thalam. The sahithyam of the pallavi was Murugaa, Kumaraa, Paramadayaalaa Saravanbhavaguhaa. The neraval and ragamalika swaras were in three other ragas which has famous muruga kritis - Shanmugapriya, Varali and Madhyamavathi.. I noticed one thing. While doing neraval he sang thirumal maruga in the place of paramadayala on two occasions . Whether it is permitted, more knowledgeable rasikas may tell. The thalam remained in tact. The concert concluded with the three tailenders. An enjoyable concert which lasted for full three hours.
