maitrIm bhajata - composer is Sri Raghavan, sanskRt scholar, and father of Smt. Nandini Ramani, disciple of Smt. Balsa saraswati.
Sri Raghavan has also composed some suprabhAtams, like the mInAkshi suprabhAtam, and a translation of the venkaTESa suprabhAtam in tamizh, called tiruvEMkaTamuDaiyAn tirupaLLi azhaicci. His typical mudra is 'kavi kOkila'.

This is what Nandini Ramani claims. But there are many people who personally know that it was the Kanchi Paramacharya who composed this song specifically for MS to sing at the UN in 1966. Ra.Ganapati has spoken to the Paramacharya about this and he has a detailed article in one of his books explaining the meaning. One does not expect the Paramcharya to lie, about anything at all. Years ago when Nandini Ramani claimed this I had written to 'Sruti' that had Dr.Raghavan or anyone else composed it, the Paramacharya would have been the first person to acknowledge it. That utterly self effacing Mahatma was always reticent to talk about his own actions or achievements. He would certainly not have kept quiet had Dr.Raghavan composed the song and he, the Paramacharya, had been wrongly credited with it. He would have been the first to protest and clear matters. There was no reaction or rebuttal from Nandini Ramani or anyone else to my letter.maitrIm bhajata - composer is Sri Raghavan, sanskRt scholar, and father of Smt. Nandini Ramani, disciple of Smt. Must be mentioned that Vasanth Desai set the tune for Maitreem Bhajate.

This question about authorship had come up again recently (within the past year) - and in the discussions on this topic in this forum, someone (may have been Mahakavi) mentioned that in the jacket of the cassette of the UN Concert, the composer was printed as Sri Raghavan, but in later releases (of the CD), the composer's name had been changed to the paramAcArya.RaviSri wrote:This is what Nandini Ramani claims.
