hello all,

i was wondering what are some good lines in this beautiful krithi of syama sastri that can be taken up for neraval?

i was not sure which forum to post this in, but sahitya and identification requests seemed to be the most appropriate place.

Personally, I am fond of singing niraval at 'mAdhavAdi vinutE sarasijAkshi, kanCi kAmAkSi tAmasamu sEyaka.' It's wordy, I know, but it works [at least for me] for a 5/6 round niraval. I remember my Guru once singing a very controlled and satisfying niraval at 'SyAmaLE nIlOtpalE' also, but it's difficult - the line is full of kArvais!

This krithi is so lovely and it is hard to resist the temptation sometimes to give it the full R,N,S treatment

many thanx for your prompt reply. yes i tried singing neraval at both lines upon your suggestions...extremely tough...but comparatively i found syamale a bit easier

My Guru is Tiruvarur Sri NS Chandrasekharan who learnt music from Dhanakoti Smt. Kuppammal [wife of Sri Naina Pillai] and then from the Alathur Brothers.
While geographical constraints have prevented regular and formal lessons, Sangita Kalanidhi Smt. R. Vedavalli has been a great musical guide and inspiration to me in the last few years.
