First ever time listening to this young vidwan; enjoyed the delicious fare he and team dished out today. Hit the ball out of the park with his only nereval. IMO, a star in the making! Can improve his diction and voicing bh/ph etc. An ever smiling countenance and good stage presence too.

the kuntalavarALi song of PS - what a mettu! makes you tap your feet and dance! the charanam peters out and doesn't measure to the grandeur of pallavi & anupallavi :(

95% full crowd today but thinned out to around 60% eventually, in a hall with capacity of around 200/

I have not heard trichy pradeep kumar in a full live concert , he is definitely talented . Pradeep is from alathur school and his guru is J Venkataraman. Pradeep was also accompanied by a husband -wife pair, who are both really good :ymapplause:
I wish he had sung bit more and I am glad you wrote a review of his concert.

Sankark,

Good to see a review from you about a promising young singer. Thanks Rajesh, for letting us know. I was wondering whose student he was.

nAdarUpiNi in sarasvathi by AK is one of my favorites. That charaNam he took up for neraval is an endearing plea to goddess sarasvathi: kUvum kuyilil, konjum mazhalaiyil, vISum thenRalil, vINai oliyil, kaviyil, nadiyil, kuzhalil amaindAi, kalaivANiyE, en nAvil amarvAi...

Kudos to the organizers for showcasing this artiste. Did not see him much during the season and it was definitely a loss for the rasikas.

Thanks, Sankark. Very constructive comments.

I have heard Trichy Pradeepkumar on a few occasions and I spoke to him at length after one of his concerts a couple of years ago. Yes, bucketloads of raw talent waiting to be harnessed. He has an exceptional brigha ability that I have only seen in a handful of youngsters in his peer group. I wish him the very best. We need to encourage talent of this kind. :ymapplause:

Pradeepkumar comes from a non-musical background (his father is a police officer in Trichy). Also important to point out that Sri KN Shashikiran was instrumental in bringing Pradeepkumar out to Chennai and got him several initial performing gigs and encouraged his talent by providing several opportunities through Carnatica and other sources.

His training with Trichy Venkataraman has given him the influence of Alathur brothers for sure, but also exposed him to very strong elements of Pazhani's laya gnanam. In fact, my most recent sighting was his vocal accompaniment for Sri Venkatraman for last year's Pallavi Darbar organized by Carnatica (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSCKW03kEi4). Unfortunately I too missed him during the music season.

Good to see a review of his and with excellent accompanists as Rajesh mentions. Hope to see many more!

kAdi mOdi is set to shankarAbharaNa (in the published book) but Pradeepkumar must have sung it in a rare raga.

I have heard in pallavi darbar and few more lecdems many many years back where he has assisted his Guru Trichy J Venkataraman. Every body had to miss him this season. I think this season he had one concert at Nadasudha in velachery,it was put in kutcheris.com , but on that day I could see his concert cancelled and instead Smt bhushany kalyanaraman sang as per the hindu. This youngster needs atleast few more trickling opportunities.

NSTSS needs to be praised to have brought him for a full fledged concert. If not for them, wouldn't even have known about him. The organizer also lamented the fact in the customary speech after tani that people flock mostly/only to the popular artistes and thus miss out on many other good to excellent performers. Seems he spotted a Shweta Prasad through TTD live concerts and have arranged her for Saturday. Hope I shall be able to make it there that day.
