Multi-faceted genius Sri T.N. Seshagopalan (TNS) began his 5 day harikatha on Valmiki Ramayanam today at the Youth Hostel, Indira Nagar, Adayar, Chennai. The harikatha is being organized by Hamsadhwani. TNS was accompanied on the violin by Sri G. Chandramouli and on the mrudangam by Sri M.S. Varadan.

Sri L. Swaminathan, author of books on Valmiki Ramayanam, ‘inaugurated’ the harikatha. In his speech, he said that Sri Valmiki was worried about the propagation of his veda, the Ramayanam but his worries disappeared when Lava and Kusha joined his ashrama. They set music to Valmiki Ramayanam and made it a ‘musical’. Sri L. Swaminathan went on to say that Valmiki Ramayanam is about enlightenment and not about entertainment and took digs at carnatic music concerts going to the extent of branding them as entertainment. He made some comments like “this is not Ariyakkudi (Ramanuja Iyengar) or Semmangudi (Srinivasa Iyer) concert; this is not enterntainmentâ€

Ram,
I have no words to express my feelings at this moment. Your post really brought tears to my eyes. Please keep posting. You made me visualise everything. I felt I was listening to TNS himself. Thanks a lot.
PS: Waiting for sarojarams's interpretation of the harikatha.

Thank you bhaktha for the appreciation.

I am sure Smt. Saroja Ramanujam will be able to do much better justice using her vast knowledge. Looking forward to her post.

Ram is it going to be a test match or a one-dayer?! I do hope it is the former, having been exiled to the Dandakaranya myself!

Tough luck. Like India, TNS is unable to go to the second round as he is indisposed. Harikatha cancelled and musical discourse by Kausalya Sivakumar (?) is being organized today. I now have to go to other concerts just like TMK might now be forced to watch other matches :(

Cheer up! TNS rasikas! He was having only a virus infection picked up during his trip to Bangalore and had to cancel the m next four days harikatha according to the doctor's advice.and he is ok now.He will be back on the field with redoubled energy and watch out for the five day test match from 3oth April to 4th May with TNS batting bowling and fielding all in one go winning the match too!The 27th happening is only a trailer to what is coming later. My review of 27th Harikatha will follow shortly.
