The venue was a small kalyana mantap (Parvati Prasanna at Jayalakshmipuram) it is nice to get to hear an artiste of this calibre from so close. It only happens in small cities.

TVS is such a simple man it is a pleasure to watch him. He obviously enjoys what he is doing tremendously and the joy and friendly smile is etched on his face forever. The dress to spoke of his personality - simple cotton affair, no watch or even rings.

Mysore Nagaraj was on the violin and he was excellent. Somehow, I felt like I was listening to Dr. N Rajam and not to a Carnatic musician. May be it is his style.

I could not follow all the songs (ragas) but two of them ninne nera in Kamavardhini & ramanukku mannan mudi, a tamil song in Hindolam were rendered very well by TVS and excellent support by MN.

The sound system was horrible and disrupted the mood of listeners as well as the artistes quite often. I did not catch the name of the Mridangam and ghatam artistes but they were also quite good.

I went there hoping he would sing some of my MMI favorites. On that count it was disappointing because all his songs were different, at least I have never heard recordings of MMI singing them. He is following a different style for good reasons as it is a heavy burden to carry being MMI's cousin (?) But his swara singing was great and though not exactly like MMI, you can see the influence here and there. An expert may be able to see more similarities.

All in all, a nice concert. He performed at another venue a day ago I missed that one.

His mother Gomathi, is sister of Madurai Mani Iyer. His father T.S.Vembu Iyer was MMI's disciple as well.

At the very beginning, I used to think--what's all the fuss about song lists? I admit it--I ask for them too, now! I learn from the lists, they give me a flavor of the concert I missed, and what the heck, I admit it. I am very keen on lists now!
Could someone post the list of TVS's concert in one of my favorite towns? It is exciting to hear that there were many different songs. TVS would have done them full justice.
So, the Mysore bros are back from Australia? Nagaraj accompanying TVS is something I wouldn't miss. Wonder who the percussionists were...

The mridangist was Tumkur ... did not remember the name. The ghatam player was a young chap, quite good though by body language and eye contact etc. he seemed to be assuming Nagaraj was playing solo. Perhaps he is from Mysore.

Unfortunately as it was late, I skipped the post alapana portion of the last song (I presume last) as it was getting late. The sound system made parts of the concert quite harsh.

Re. Mysore violin brothers, there was also a review of violin concert by Manjunath for the Oriya Day which I missed.
