New website for upcoming concerts (especially in Bangalore)

Post by nadarasika.in »

Dear All,
Please try http://www.nadarasika.in a new website that lists classical concerts and dance programs. The site gives a search interface (you can see that below the default concert listing) where one can search by dates, performer names (including accompanying artists), venues, city. Also, one can register with the site with their email id and after getting verified by a email, they can upload events that they are aware of. Especially for young and upcoming artists, who often perform in a lot of smaller sabhas, this can be a great way to easily pass on the details of the event.
Right now, a lot of the Ramanavami concerts in Bangalore have been uploaded. You can search by venue names, for example, just typing 'Fort high' in the venues search box and doing a search will list all the Fort High school concerts.
Please try out and you can send your feedback over email to [email protected]..., and pass the information around for the benefit of all music and dance lovers.
Thank you all.
Best Regards,
Admin,http://www.nadarasika.in

Great initiative.
Nadarasika,
if you don't mind, some suggestions:
1. Have a column for a Google Maps link for the venue.
2. Please mention start and end time for concerts.
3. Avoid florid fonts as the readability suffers especially on mobiles.
4. Have a Google Calendar interface (like they have for CWC etc.!) so it can be downloaded to the calendar.
If these features are already there, excuse me for not checking properly.

Again, a great initiative! (kudos especially for the upload feature)

Nadarasika,
YOu said "The site is also attempting to allow upcoming artists to easily upload their concert details by registering themselves with the site. ". Is the uploading thru a custom form where immediately the uploader sees the site is immediately updated or is it an email where we send it . Just take us thru the details of how upload works . Sites like kutcheris.com are not giving the information in telling us the details of how to upload .

Bangalore is indeed rocking in all cm fronts. Lovely initiative.

Sachi the rasika who is been hearing cm for donkey's years has disappointed by asking end time . Let the musician enjoy that indeterministic time because if they ask the organizer they may tell finish it in 2 hours. :) . Let bangalore not go chennai way  Though there are few merits in asking end time having an end time at the will of musician is a personal weapon.

Rajesh
I don't mind the reference to donkeys!
But given long travel times (90 min to home from some famous venues), end time helps in my deciding to go or not.

I corrected to years . Sorry it was a fast post . You may have a point , I recollect that you always also like to hear lot of tukkadas , so for you that information is important. What is the usual stop time of concerts in bangalore , is it 9pm or 8:30 pm for a typical evening concert - in chennai it is shrinking.

The norm in Bangalore is a start any time from 4:30 PM to 6 PM. The end time is typically after 3 hours.

Rsachi,
Thanks a lot for trying the site and for the suggestions, my comments below:
1. Have a column for a Google Maps link for the venue - Will try to see how it can be done, basically this is a personal initiative in my after office hours, but it is certainly there in my todo list..
2. Please mention start and end time for concerts - can do it, I was just trying to keep the number of columns down to make the list readable (tolerably) on mobile devices. I can probably provide a feature where one can click on the row of interest and show more details.
3. Avoid florid fonts as the readability suffers especially on mobiles - Valid point, will do some changes on this front..
4. Have a Google Calendar interface (like they have for CWC etc.!) so it can be downloaded to the calendar - Thought about it, and will see when I can get this done..
If these features are already there, excuse me for not checking properly.
Please do pass on this message to your other music loving friends..

Rajeshnat,
The upload feature is very simple. You have to first register yourself with your valid email id. The system will send a verification email to this id which you need to open and click the link to verify yourselves. Once this is done, you can add events by clicking on the 'Add Event' button. It will show a form and you just fill it and submit.. I have provided very detailed instructions (my daughter in fact thinks it is too detailed and may scare everyone) to help in easily uploading concert details. You can see these by clicking on the link in the right hand panel. Please visit the same and share your feedback. Once you successfully submit, you should be able to check it immediately by just searching based on the date for which you just added the event..
Thanks for your feedback and please try registering and uploading some event which is not already present (please check the date for which you are trying to add to ensure that your entry is not a duplicate entry..)
This is a personal initiative and non-commercial, just trying to help music lovers and concert goers to easily find programs that they can join for and enjoy, and to help upcoming artists to easily publish their program details..

Lovely reply thanks. But I donot qualify for your add events examination as it is only for bangalore concerts. If I know of some sabha concert where jayan has not updated in his site, I will use it .I am seriously even thinking to relocate to bangalore considering what all the royal challengers team is doing for CM in the last 4 years during non december season. Concert for 3 hours , more sabhas coming up with more spread and more choice of concerts, more participation from sabha secerataries and updates and dissemination of information. Bangalore is truly rocking.

When you say personal initiative and non-commercial - it is just wonderful . Even if you grow big sort the concerts only based on time . Donot show bias like one other site which is minimally doing.

Rajeshnat,
Though I had put the message (especially in Bangalore), the design of the site should support more cities. It is just that since I am in Bangalore, it was easy to publish the list of concerts in Bangalore, and with Bangalore music season around the corner, I thought I will initially launch with Bangalore concert details. My original design was to auto-detect the users location and show concerts in their city(area). The database(free one :P ) I was using was not too reliable and hence I have defaulted to Bangalore for now. Even now, one can search for any city. Let me see if I can get that feature to work more reliably.
As you have mentioned, the resolve is to keep this completely non-commercial, no ads, and truly democratic in terms of what gets listed and the order (as you have seen, it is sorted by date and then time.. thats all). Some felt that allowing anyone to update their events may be a problem as people may upload very small events where the performer may not be stage ready, but I guess the benefit is much more than the noise that it generates.
