Interesting, but would have liked an "Indian' writer get things like 'aTTami' (and not 'adami') and the purpose it serves correctly. Also, while Smt. Valli's style is the pandanallUr style, her training was an experiment for her teachers to find, what she herself states, 'fluidity in straight lines'. The typical pandanallUr style of bharatnATyam is very angluar, full of straight lines and austere symmetry, while Smt. Valli's is anything but. I love Smt. Valli's style - it is poetic, lyrical, and suits her perfectly. I have not watched any of the dancers mentioned here dance in person, so I do not know how it comes off.
