why present day singers use manodharma?

Place to go if you want to ask someone identify raga, tala, composer etc or ask for sāhitya (lyrics) or notations or translations.

why present day singers use manodharma?

Post by VK RAMAN »

When the composers Thygaraja, Muttuswamy Dikshitar, Annamayya, Ramdasu did not use manodharma as part of their lyrics, why artists use manodharma. Here is a lecdem on this topic. http://www.thehindu.com/chennai-margazh ... 735403.ece. Learned members may shed some light on this.

Tadepally Lokanatha Sarma said that he disagreed with the concept of manodharma as being confined to alapana and niraval. Real manodharma lies in understanding a kriti, and communicating its bhavam to the listener.
I fully agree with this! :

I do not understand about composers not using manodharma in their creation. Is not a kriti a difficult exercise in manodharma compared to aalaapana and neraval? I read how both Poochi and Mysore came up with the same notation for one of their compositions and Poochi conceded that manodharma could coincide. (This I read as written by Mysore Vasudevacharyar). Is not Thyagaraja using different manodharma for different kritis for the same raga?
