Beautfiul list. Assume NS is Neelakantha Sivan. I have not heard #2 or 5 before.
6. Should be 'gAngEya vasanadhara', right?

Indeed a fabulous concert.
He did sing a detailed neraval for vakulabharanam. Irayimman Thampi's javali is 'chentAr sAyaka rUpa', recently heard him sing in a TV program, but this was better. Top class alapana for all three and brilliant violin accompaniment.

Very good concert. Pleased to have attended it.
Shertallai's voice was the usual powerful one. Felt that some clarity was missing. Probably the acoustics of the hall is to blame.
He deserves a larger audience.
I needed help (from braindrain) to identify Vagulabaranam and Naganandini. (Also a bit envious that he could identify them instantly
)
Highlight was nattakurinji ragam. Not too elaborate. But brought out the bhavam fully. In fact, all his alapanais demonstrated how much he is himself enjoying the bhava of the raga as he is transmitting it to the audience.
I think it was a typical Sivarathri concert, if you see the list
although it is supposed to be Krishna janmashtami series. But never mind. After all they are all close relatives, arent they

I have followed Ranganatha Sharma for sometime now. he is one of the vidwans who has probably lost out because he dint move to Chennai. And may be because he is just too classical and appeals to a smaller segment of people like on this forum.kssr wrote:Very good concert. Pleased to have attended it.

I want to tickle the brains of boarders.. Why is it that most artists who get popular are from chennai or move to chennai eventually? Its quite rare to have popular artists from outside.. Hyd bros, Pantula Rama, Malladis etc being some exceptions.
Is it because the target audience itself is a small pool of people all concentrated in predominantly one city? Or is it that we don't find quality else where (not being cocky here) or is it the closed mind set of people? is chennai to carnatic music similar to what BCCI is to cricket?

Is there perhaps a clue in why USA produces many nobel laureates?
How did Tiruvarur produce the three geniuses in CM?

Because Jawaharlal Nehru wasn't on the Nobel Committee.kvchellappa wrote:Is there perhaps a clue in why USA produces many nobel laureates?
He would have put in reservations for various countries for receiving the Nobel prizes.

The Chennai sabhas are similar to the IPL, not the BCCI.Venkataraman wrote:I have followed Ranganatha Sharma for sometime now. he is one of the vidwans who has probably lost out because he dint move to Chennai.
