Hello all,
I am new here so please forgive me if this is in the wrong section.
I live in South Africa where the Carnatic following is almost non existent, thankfully we do have some proponents in this country, but the general indian public here prefers film music. That seems to dictate what is brought into our country by traders.
The Internet is great for finding Carnatic music. I've found a lot of digital music online. BUT I'm a little bit of an audiophile/audio enthusiast and i like to have other formats other than digital like vinyl and even reel tapes. I do have some and its all inherited. allmost all of them where not well taken care of so they don't play very well.
the trouble is it seems almost impossible to find ANY (nevermind good condition/quality) carnatic pressings.
can anyone point me to a specific seller(s) on ebay or amazon or a website that deals with collecting and selling carnatic LPs. (even reel tapes)?
I find one or two on ebay and amazon but they are often overpriced and usually not what i want.
my particular favorite is violin, i love lalgudi, kunnakudi vaidyanathan, kanyakumari, akkarai sisters, L subramaniam, shankar, TH subramaniam, MSG, TNK, ganesh and kumaresh and the mysore brothers (but those last two seem to have embraced the digital era so i dont expect to find vinyl there). but i like ALL carnatic music.
does anyone know of any record labels pushing out remastered vinyl? due to digital music and the internet physical music sales of CDs took a huge downward turn from a few years ago now. recently we are seeing many new artists (western, like rock and pop and jazz) releasing vinyl pressings and those seem to be the highest in music sales now. then vinyl also became a huge fad with the hipster crowd (im not a hipster, im too fat to wear those pants) a lot of western artists are re releasing pressings of classics like metallicas master of puppets. BUT ive never seen any indian music. i thought id at least see something like ravi shankar and yehudi menuhin, but nothing.
thanks in advance.
where does one find Carnatic music on LP/vinyl
