Shloka sung by Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer

Hi all. Some of you may remember me from a long time ago. I am back after a long hiatus. Hope everyone is fine.

I have a request and I tried to look this up everywhere but turned up empty handed.

Semmangudi's concert, with Sarasakhsa Paripalaya and Enduku Peddalaval, followed by RTP in Keeravani was a legendary one and I am fairly sure anyone who has heard enough of his music would have come across this concert.

In that concert he sings two viruttams.

One is the usual one he sings in many concerts. But prior to that he sings a different one. Starting in Hamsanandi.

It goes something like this: Mayayi yen iravil(?) ... Ends with Parasivanandavalli umaye..

I have searched everywhere for the source of this but couldn't find it so if anyone can point me the right way I Shall be much obliged. If you want I can send you the virutam in question. (I Don't know what sharing rules are anymore. Are sangeethapriya links okay?)

Haha thanks for the shloka. I've not been attending concerts for a while now unless someone tells me it is worthwhile.

I have two daughters now, and they are more into ballet and Disney than carnatic music, though my eldest learns Bharatanatyam, surprisingly willingly.

So, not much reason to be more deeply into CM than listening to my collection. I have enough to keep me busy, and these days I listen quite thematically. I was going through a few of my favourite viruttams, and this one came to mind. I realised that though the words were tamil, I had no idea what they were.
