The brahma gana sabha is as alwaya a great sabha. The start at 6pm is great as it ensures the concert will be certainly long to acceptable duration and with a very high likelihood of pallavi drop . The tickets are usually in high side , 100 for dias , 200 for a small balcony and I think atleast 400 RS for the main hall, I guess the price of tickets will be a deterrent for many to join and make this hall as a full house . But it was considerably a great crowd in the days of live streaming from arkay/parivAdhini and with another RK murthy having a parallel free concert at the carnatic ubiquitous hall ragasudha.
The percussion team is very very special to me . Palakkad raghu legacy is fully there with Anantha Krishnan and a near G Harishankar is indeed there with B S Sundar Kumar. The sturdy and slow bugfree prasad with lovely raga bhavam served as a great watts governor for the creative carnatic Tsunami abhishek.
The start was in the gentle nAttaikurinji . I donot know why Abhi told the mic man to completely reduce the sharpness at the start of the concert . I felt his voice was slightly lowered but still the popular gentle sloping nAttaikurinji was a great start. I love and adore nAdaswaresque typecast in concerts and is there a bettter krithi than a suddaseemanthani janaki ramana to represent that . Lovely rendition of the krithi and a little shorter round of swaras welcomed me .The brilliant Anantha really guiding with his superb speed was well done
Bilahari was the submain . Alapana singing is indeed Abhishek forte and I liked his alapana , certainly he did not trespass to mohanakalyani . The krithi of T is bit rare and to the best of my knowledge I have not heard a neraval in this T krithi . ABhishek rocked with a lovely neraval and the swaras had his usual energy with extraordinary support from team.
If many of you have mistaken Abhishek as a musician who goes berserk with speed ,there was one extraordinary Anandabhairavi to disprove that notion . I loved every ounce of his konjal in his anandabhairavi . Many many years ago I was acclimatized to a little faster rendition of marivera gati of SSI . My world of anandabhairavi opened when I bought a lovely cassette of TMK singing an exclusive Anandabhairavi songs . What a joy to hear a slow kALapramanam and a sedate and powerful Anandabhairavi . His voice touched with majesty the different shades of anandabhairavi and this is the first time I am hearing a slower marivera gati in a live concert . I do know Abhishek about 10 or 12 years back has presented few Shyama sastri exclusive concerts but I indeed loved this hueness rich anandabhairavi presentation . The swaras in the second half , got abhi back to his laya kanakku-un-Anandabhairavi but I was glad he did not overdo it . For anandabhairavi this concert was worth the gold
Abhishek usually avoids singing a fast number between main and RTP , but yesterday I got a rare and faster number from him . The fast number was in kAntamani and it was well done with anantha and Sundar giving wonderful support . With his guru PSN mAma smiling and guiding him, I thought the avatara purushan of CM is going to take some suddha madhyama raga pracheena raga ,that too with kaanthamani just getting over(the prathi gone) . I was right in my calculation and Abhi came up with his career defining Big 5 raga - todi. Todi alapana was lovely, so many nAdaswara typecast Pidi with excellent control of breath .
The disappointment started when he outsourced entire taanam to Violin. Abhishek always does that and generally I am as always disappointed with he giving taanam to violinist . The pallavi line was a lift from a OVK krithi , nice one with some lovely breath taking nadaswara like pidis. As usual in a typical fashion , abhishek winded up with a small quantum of swaras . It looks abhishek is BIG In R , Fairly big in Neraval , Pass in Taanam and short in Swaras --- that has become abhishek's RTP.
The last tukkkada was lalgudi sir's kamas thillana . There is always an aesthetic angle that Mahavidwan LGJ creates with his thillana and I liked it.I could not get even one line fully in his rendition. I guess kamas is ,,,, only when you dont get every line in a thillana.
Anantha and Sundar Just Rocked

This percussion pair is phenomenal to me . Sundar has such power and evenness in his play. May be the volume of kanjira could have been turned 30 degrees anticlockwise but that was no big deal . What a lovely tani that anantha and sundar played , phenomenal speed with really crystal clear solkattu . Anantha enjoys and brings joy to mrudu angam - he is surely a legend in making. Sundar is like a hawk when it comes to return , he does not get bogged down by the excellence of mrudu angam. Sundar is another legend in the making
BU Ganesh Prasad has played a lot with ABhishek in his early days. He is slightly slow and I think that is good as abhishek needs the contrast as abhi can go bit overboard with speed . Raga bhavam was clean and I liked his anandabhairavi konjal the most . Taanam was nice in first half.
Keep it up avatAra purush brothers abhishek and anantha . Lovely support from sundar and Ganesh. I am glad i could make it on a week day to a 6 pm start concert . Overall an excellent concert for 3 hours and 10 minutes .
