From the Town of Marriages...

Post by melam72 »

Kalyanapuram

Why does that name sound so familiar? Of course it does! It is, after all, the town of the inimitable Kalyanapuram Aravamudhachariar. Is it a katha kalakshepam?

S

Customary initial, moving on..

Aravind

....

Unlike the disappointment that one experiences when they get to the Aravind part, this young man's singing is impeccable, clean, and very reminiscent of TN Seshagopalan (the N, of course, standing for Nasal   ), without the nasality and the feud with shruti, of course. He has an impeccable padantharam, like his guru.

Song list till now:

1] Vanajaksha Ninne Nammiti - Reethigowla - Ata
2] Shakti Ganapathim - Nattai - Rupakam

Begada alapanai is in progress.

I hope that this young man, Kalyanapuram S.... doesn't get too carried away in Mylapore and make it a veedhi bhajanai

kalyANapuram...with a name like that, nAyanam and mELam have to be mentioned too, I think--mELakartA rAgams aside...

Good to hear of another youngster who is promising...

Another word origin question--your 'pA'DA'ntaram reminded me of another old word pADAvati, an expression used then for any bad film...Did that come about because by old standards a film had to be filled with singing? paDA (unsinging) vati?

Asides aside, good wishes to Aravind...

TirumaNamcheri - another place a lot of tamil unmarried girls are taken so they get married quickly. Is there any ragam or kriti on this temple.

One of his old concerts - don't think was reviewed. He was just being called out in a competition for sounding a lot like TNS - faithfully reported here!

https://youtu.be/ua953KO1ay0?t=1224 - kAlapramaNam perfection shows a lot of maturity. We never got to listen to a young TKM, TNS combo did we? They belong to different generation between themselves. Some of the flourishes by the Mridangist are good contemporization of TKM school!
