MALLADI BROS AT BVB-29/11/17
Accompanists.
Nagai Sriram-Violin
Manoj Siva-Mridangam
B.S.Purushothaman-Ganjira.
List of songs.
Sanatana-Phalamanjari-T (S)
Shankha chakra- Poornachandrika-MD
Emayya Rama-Kambodi- Bhadrachalam Ramadasa (R,N,S)
Kannanai pani maname-Shanmugapriya-PS
Maravagave O manasa- Sama- PSI
RTP-Ganamurthy
Pallavi-Geethaacharya charanam saranam prapadye
Gnaanadam mokshadam Bhagavat
RM swaras- Valaji, Hindolam, Khamas.
A pristine sampradayamana concert as the brothers are famous for. Emayya Rama with neraval and swaram was refreshing. Kannanai pani maname came as a surprise. It was rendered very well as also Maravagave. Sriramprasad remembered about their Guru and Semmangudigaru for Maravagave and mentioned that they were fortunate to sing the song before Semmangudi and get his blessings.
Sriramprasad further informed that today is Moksha Ekadasi and birth day of Bhagavat Gita. Accordingly they presented the pallavi. The raga alapana of 12 minutes by Malladi Ravikumar came with lot of imagination and voice modulation and special mention should be made of the immaculate pronounciation of charanam and saranam- never interchanging the words. Nagai Sriram excelled in Ganamurthy with his manodharmam, display of thick and thin shades, bowing technique and following. The tanam was accompanied by Mridangam and Ganjira. The percussion duo played very well with the right volume, nadam, deft strokes and embellishing the concert to a great extent

Re: MALLADI BROS AT BVB-29/11/17
I thought I was late and entered 7 PM thinking that couple of songs got over. The concert started late, it seems, instead of regular 6.45 PM.
Sudden rain added beauty to his concert. (Gaana mazhai, real mazhai)
Emayaa rAmA- normally, they take neraval in "sudunAchu" (NedanUrigAru's immortal kriti and neraval), but they took it in "Karivarada bhadrAdri" (saraNam mudhrai).
Younger one's voice was not in proper shape. He was drinking water more often. (Thought of Sanjay for a while...)
Gaanamurthy RTP is very rare. Except one Saint's kriti, I have not come across any kriti on this Raga. I was about to go after "marakavE" but the RTP made me sit. It was truly wonderful rendition.
C Rama was correct, their careful pronunciation of Pallavi words merit mention.
MarakavE could have been avoided, they could not give full justice to RTP. Tani started at 8.45 PM. People started leaving slowly at that time.

Re: MALLADI BROS AT BVB-29/11/17
8.30 PM is always dangerous time. All the Mylaporeans and 60 + people, they had to take food at 8.45 PM. Yesterday, Ramakrishna murthy's excellant Kalyani followed by Tani - RKM requested people to stay till the kriti is over. But, unfortunately, people started moving out for the reason mentioned in the first line. (I could not give review because I entered the hall only at 7.45 PM)
I could feel how Tani artists feel when People suddenly start leaving ...
I think the artist can give Tani at 8.00 PM.

The organisers should have had only 2 concerts a day, doing justice to both the slots.

And it was quite a bit of torture sitting thru the previous concert to make it to this one. It would be good if they select the artistes based on the quality of music.

Suresh, Absolutely right. Jayasree Vaidyanathan- the previous singer-very mediocre music. But I wonder how she gets important slots in many sabhas. In BSU, she got a slot before Sanjay or Abhishek. There also I had to undergo this torture. It was worse in that concert. Many slips in alapana, not able to land in the edam. Yet many opportunities for her.

Yes. Ganamurthy RTP is rare. But Priya Sisters sang RTP in Ganamurthy in Mudhra dedicated to their Guru TRS a few years back. It was brilliant.grsastrigal wrote: ↑30 Nov 2017, 10:30

Jaisree Vaidyanathan is from Appalo hospital ,the main sponsor for many sabas. If you do not give proper slot, the tap will be closed.

dAnam koduttha mAttai pallai pidichu parka vEndAm.
Here in States even when you are shelling out upwards of $25 and above we often times get mediocre concerts. if the artist is good, their time can be cut short (~ 2 hours) because the organizers have to fit their other activities (like prize distribution etc.) into the time slot.

The artist in question recognized the issues faced by the audience.
In the krithi "Vaaraahi Annaiye", there was a phrase "Vedanaiyo .... Sodhanaiyo". I thought that was a reference to the situation faced by the audience!

Kaappaai ennaiye.
There. My Pallavi for the song.
You have led a charmed life not to have heard such songs written by neighbourhood Mamis.
I inadvertently broke a mirror that morning. So I had to listen to that song and a few others of similar quality in ragas known but to God.
But then, I have been going thru a lot of mirrors lately!

As Madam JJ was being treated at Appalo (Apollo) Hospital some 15 months back, there was a meme going around. Two sadhus blessing it and saying, " As you are treating Amma herself, from now onwards may you be known as Ammalo Hospital."

That day she sang a few of such songs which looked like neighbourhood mami's songs which added insult to the injury.harimau wrote: ↑02 Dec 2017, 08:22vaaraahi annaiyevijay.siddharth wrote: ↑02 Dec 2017, 07:28 Harimau,

vArAhi annaiyE--I first thought it was a song by our porcine forumite, addressing his beloved. Mami I am not (pATTi, more like it) and I don't live in your neighborhood
Siddharth, watch it! Keep the dignity of a composer, and don't let them pick up on your admitting to plagiarism
Though not at the head of the welcoming line as Sachi had once suggested, here I am. Glad to have you back Harimau, with your wit and ever-ready supply of all kinds of news. Hoping you won't get carried away and say things which won't sit well with your friends and other forumites

Arasi- as the beloved of the aforementioned porcine forumite, I can you with utter confidence that that man's idea of romantic songs is 'Roopa Tera Masthana' and other similar songs!
